Position Overview:
The Legal Counsel provides corporate and commercial legal support to Canada Goose both domestically and in a global scope. Position Overview:
The Legal Counsel provides corporate and commercial legal support to Canada Goose both domestically and in a global scope. The primary responsibility of the position is drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts. In addition, the successful candidate will attend to all legal needs of the company in a variety of subject matter as they arise. The Legal Counsel will work with departments throughout the business to assist in drafting and negotiation as well as managing risk. The position involves a broad and evolving scope of responsibility.
What You'll Do:
Support the General Counsel in dealing with business-critical issues relating to commercial law
Assist drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide variety of client and vendor contracts
Manage international legal matters as Canada Goose continues its international expansion
Independently address day-to-day commercial work, providing hands-on legal support to the different areas of the business
Manage the needs of internal clients independently and being assertive regarding managing risk where appropriate
Become the legal lead in several subject matters within the business including servicing internal teams and negotiating with external parties
Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to manage and mitigate risk
Litigation and claims management in the relevant subject matter
Develop and implement procedures for contract management and contract administration
Manage legal spending in areas of responsibility
Play a crucial role in the coaching, training, and support of internal clients and colleagues
Participate in various projects as needed
Let's Talk About You:
Law degree from an accredited Canadian law school
Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
Business-savvy attorney with 2-4 years of commercial law experience at a major law firm and in-house experience with a major corporation
Strong experience with drafting and negotiating contracts
Experience with intellectual property is a plus
Experience in an organization with international operations and scope
Exposure to a broad range of legal practice experience

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel (AGC), Litigation, Student Appeals and Policy, the Legal Assistant plays a key role in providing comprehensive administrative support to the team reporting to the AGC. The Legal Assistant also provides support to other teams within Legal Services. Work demands in the office consist of high volumes of work, rapidly changing priorities, and dealing with competing pressures and deadlines. This position generally works with minimal supervision supporting a high volume of work. The role requires the ability to work under pressure in this fast-paced environment. Considerable discretion is also necessary as the position is privy to and works with sensitive, highly confidential information. This role must demonstrate a high level of professionalism when liaising with internal and external members of the University community. This position requires exceptional collaboration and problem solving which is achieved through the establishment of relationships with key University team members. The Legal Assistant is the primary administrative legal support to all the activities undertaken by the Litigation, Student Appeals, and Policy and Commercial Legal teams and is also accountable for administrative services, including office management and coordination. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Provide administrative support on the Legislative Compliance Program.
Responsible for key administrative tasks including scheduling meetings, file management, arranging for document signing and managing intake processes.
Complete detailed projects requiring considerable knowledge and research.
Responsible for developing and maintaining a litigation hold process for Legal Services.
Build relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally.
Maintain the University's policy library and provides support in policy development.
Editing of the University's policy website via Drupal.
Provide, research and facilitate environmental scans and other fact finding to support Policy and Legal Services.
Gathers information and prepares initial drafts of reports to the Board of Governors, the Audit Committee of the Board and the Enterprise Risk Management Committee.
Where appropriate, gathers information and prepares correspondence, certificates and affidavits with attention to accuracy of information, grammar and formatting, for subsequent review by appropriate lawyer.
Works independently on specific projects assigned by an AGC or other members of the Legal Services Team.
Updates database for file management and archiving.
Qualifications / Requirements:
3-5 years legal administrative experience required; previous experience at the University of Calgary is an asset.
University degree (or equivalent) or completion of a post-secondary certificate in a Legal Assistant program from a recognized institution.
Experience in project work and maintaining legal files.
Must be comfortable working and communicating with all levels of staff, including senior leaders.
Strong interpersonal skills and communicates effectively in a professional and respectful manner with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators.
Strong organizational skills that facilitate multi-tasking, including a meticulous attention to detail.

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel Manager, the candidate acts as counsel for the negotiation, approval and management of contracts within the Legal Services team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Contract Approval
Review, negotiate, and approve contracts, many of which require complex negotiations with organizations and parties with diverse interests (contracts for the purchase of goods and services, information technology, infrastructure access, construction, marketing, confidentiality, and leases);
Advise business units on contract matters by identifying issues, resolving disputes, and suggesting appropriate solutions based on the legal and commercial risks assessed by this senior legal counsel;
When the services of external legal counsel are required, ensure the effective management of their services and the associated budget;
Provide the required support to the Senior Legal Counsel Manager
Work in collaboration with the paralegal.
Contract Governance and Contract Management
Ensure that contracts comply with internal rules (authority matrix, rules for awarding contracts, etc.) and applicable commercial trade agreements;
Manage the implementation of any required changes to the contract management system and contract development cycle (including contract templates), their continuous improvement and their communication within the company.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec for a minimum of seven (7) years;
Have relevant experience with commercial contracts;
Strong sense of professional ethics in order to respect and properly implement internal governance rules;
Excellent organizational and planning skills to set priorities and meet tight deadlines;
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with members of various departments in a courteous way and with tact, and to have internal client satisfaction at heart;
Skills in legal writing, negotiation, and dispute management;
Strong ability to be meticulous and autonomous;
Excellent command of English and French, spoken and written;
Ability to identify solutions to problems and manage stress;
Experience in the use of various databases and technological tools;
Knowledge of the Oracle system is an asset.
