The Law Society of Alberta (Law Society) regulates the legal profession in the public interest.
In alignment with the Law Society’s vision, mission, and strategic plan, the Early Intervention department provides a mechanism for people to convey concerns about a lawyer; assesses information for regulatory risk; and streams matters to the discipline process or provides feedback and learning opportunities. This is part of the Law Society’s strategic goal of being a model regulator by proactively addressing lawyer skills while addressing disciplinary matters through a fair process. The Early Intervention department includes intake, assessment and resolution activities. Contacts with the department are categorized as general inquiries or complaints and may come from the public, lawyers, the courts, financial institutions or on behalf of businesses.
As a key member of the Early Intervention team, Early Intervention Counsel will, with direction from the Senior Manager, Professionalism, be responsible for reviewing information received, and communicating decisions and reasons to complainants. In addition, Early Intervention Counsel will provide coaching and educational resources to lawyers as appropriate and required, and may also work to resolve issues between lawyers and others.
Success in this position requires excellent communication, time management, judgment and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Early Intervention Team you will:
Review information received, and then conduct a review under s.53 of the Legal Profession Act and the Law Society Rules according to established processes and timelines.
Research and gather additional information required to arrive at a decision.
Review complaints and either resolve them, refer them into the Conduct stream, or dismiss them as a delegate of the Executive Director.
Make informed decisions relative to process and needs.
Communicate decisions and reasons to complainants.
Communicate with lawyers about client service and practice improvements.
Identify risk and trends and provide recommendations to management.
Remain diplomatic, professional and nonjudgmental when communicating with complainants and lawyers
Prepare dismissals and other correspondence and complete risk assessments as required.
Work collaboratively with Conduct Counsel, Legal Counsel, Practice Management Counsel and other Law Society staff to identify appropriate actions.
Engage the Investigations department to gather relevant information, as needed.
Communicate professionally with key internal and external stakeholders and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.

Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in private practice with significant client exposure in broad areas of law.
Member of the Law Society of Alberta, or eligible for membership.

This is part of the Law Society’s strategic goal of being a model regulator by proactively addressing lawyer skills while addressing disciplinary matters through a fair process. The Early Intervention department includes intake, assessment and resolution activities. Contacts with the department are categorized as general inquiries or complaints and may come from the public, lawyers, the courts, financial institutions or on behalf of businesses.
As a key member of the Early Intervention team, Early Intervention Counsel will, with direction from the Senior Manager, Professionalism, be responsible for reviewing information received, and communicating decisions and reasons to complainants. In addition, Early Intervention Counsel will provide coaching and educational resources to lawyers as appropriate and required, and may also work to resolve issues between lawyers and others.
Success in this position requires excellent communication, time management, judgment and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Early Intervention Team you will:
Review information received, and then conduct a review under s.53 of the Legal Profession Act and the Law Society Rules according to established processes and timelines.
Research and gather additional information required to arrive at a decision.
Review complaints and either resolve them, refer them into the Conduct stream, or dismiss them as a delegate of the Executive Director.
Make informed decisions relative to process and needs.
Communicate decisions and reasons to complainants.
Communicate with lawyers about client service and practice improvements.
Identify risk and trends and provide recommendations to management.
Remain diplomatic, professional and nonjudgmental when communicating with complainants and lawyers
Prepare dismissals and other correspondence and complete risk assessments as required.
Work collaboratively with Conduct Counsel, Legal Counsel, Practice Management Counsel and other Law Society staff to identify appropriate actions.
Engage the Investigations department to gather relevant information, as needed.
Communicate professionally with key internal and external stakeholders and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain working knowledge of the Legal Profession Act, the Rules of the Law Society and the Code of Conduct, as it pertains to conducting the assessment process.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in private practice with significant client exposure in broad areas of law.
Member of the Law Society of Alberta, or eligible for membership.
Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate with people diplomatically, tactfully, fairly, and effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to excel in a busy and demanding environment.
Interest-based mediation training is considered an asset.
Ability to plan and prioritize workloads, work under pressure, and adhere to strict deadlines.
Experience in applying the Law Society's threshold test for discipline or similar regulatory test is an asset.
Interested in and capable of growing to meet additional challenges that may be added to this position over time.

The law clerk will be a professional staff member of the EY Law Business Immigration Group, working in affiliation with EY. Qualifications
Exigences minimales:
L.L.B. ou J.D. ou équivalent délivré par une école de droit agréée + 6 ans d’expérience pertinente ou expériences professionnelles équivalentes clairement démontrées. Expérience antérieure auprès d’une société d’ingénierie, d’architecture ou de construction. Expérience juridique confirmée auprès d’un entrepreneur, d’un expert-conseil ou d’un cabinet d’avocats d’envergure dans les domaines du droit de l’ingénierie et de la construction.
Membre en règle du barreau dans n’importe quelle province canadienne.
Bonne maîtrise de l’anglais et du français et capable de pratiquer le droit dans les deux langues
Qualifications Souhaitables:
Expérience juridique confirmée auprès d’un entrepreneur, d’un expert-conseil ou d’un cabinet d’avocats d’envergure dans les domaines du droit de l’ingénierie et de la construction.

Le service de conception et d’experts-conseils d’AECOM est à la recherche d’un.e avocat.e doué(e) et créatif(ve) qui entrera immédiatement en fonction au sein du service des affaires juridiques des Amériques, dans l’un des principaux bureaux d’AECOM au Canada, préférablement dans les régions de Mississauga ou Montréal . Qualifications
Exigences minimales:
L.L.B. ou J.D. ou équivalent délivré par une école de droit agréée + 6 ans d’expérience pertinente ou expériences professionnelles équivalentes clairement démontrées. Expérience antérieure auprès d’une société d’ingénierie, d’architecture ou de construction. Expérience juridique confirmée auprès d’un entrepreneur, d’un expert-conseil ou d’un cabinet d’avocats d’envergure dans les domaines du droit de l’ingénierie et de la construction.
Membre en règle du barreau dans n’importe quelle province canadienne.
Bonne maîtrise de l’anglais et du français et capable de pratiquer le droit dans les deux langues

As Associate Director, Global Investigations you will be accountable for conducting global investigations primarily focused on cases involving the following RBC business segments: Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Investor & Treasury Services, and Corporate Support functions. You will be a part of the Global Special Investigations Unit (GSIU) whose role is to mitigate financial, reputational, regulatory, and legal risk using established investigative procedures and in accordance with RBC policies.
What will you do?
Lead the investigation of complex cases ensuring accurate and timely completion with a particular focus on matters involving misconduct, regulatory issues, or fraud
Responsible for end-to-end investigation of cases including gathering and review of documentary evidence, detailed review and analysis of transactional information, case management, loss prevention and asset recovery, conducting witness and subject interviews and detailed written reporting

As Associate Director, Global Investigations you will be accountable for conducting global investigations primarily focused on cases involving the following RBC business segments: Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Investor & Treasury Services, and Corporate Support functions. The investigations frequently involve highly sensitive, privileged and/or complex allegations related to fraud or misconduct, and will also include the review and assessment of potential investment frauds.
You will be a part of the Global Special Investigations Unit (GSIU) whose role is to mitigate financial, reputational, regulatory, and legal risk using established investigative procedures and in accordance with RBC policies.
What will you do?
Lead the investigation of complex cases ensuring accurate and timely completion with a particular focus on matters involving misconduct, regulatory issues, or fraud
Responsible for end-to-end investigation of cases including gathering and review of documentary evidence, detailed review and analysis of transactional information, case management, loss prevention and asset recovery, conducting witness and subject interviews and detailed written reporting
Liaise and collaborate with internal partners such as Asset Recovery, AML, Compliance, Employee Relations, Law Group and Senior Leadership of business units across the organization. At times, there will also be a need to liaise with external partners including regulatory bodies, law enforcement and external consultants
Preparation of document briefs, and in appropriate cases testifying on behalf of RBC in civil, criminal, or regulatory proceedings
Application of critical thinking to ensure matters are thoroughly and objectively investigated
Maintain a global network of partners in Employee relations, Law Group, Compliance, AML, and business units to ensure a consistent approach to the detection and investigation of criminal activity against RBC
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in internal misconduct or fraud investigations
Significant experience in conducting interviews, including those suspected of wrongdoing
Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
General knowledge of Canadian Criminal and Civil litigation procedures
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Analytical skills to reason through and manage a complex, multi-issue, and diverse caseload and sound judgement in identifying risks that require escalation.
Canadian Securities Course, or securities investigation experience
University Degree, or equivalent experience
Ability to travel
Nice-to-have
CPA, CFF, CFE, CFA or equivalent designation(s)
Knowledge and experience using network/data visualization/data analysis software
Accounting / Forensic accounting knowledge
Experience conducting investigations in a banking or banking related environment
Experience conducting investigation using electronic communication review tools
