About the role
We’re looking for an In-House Legal Counsel II to join our growing team! What you’ll do here:
Handle insurance defence files of varying complexities independently from beginning to conclusion.
Independently prepare and conduct applications/motions, discoveries, mediations, arbitration, pre-trial conferences and trials.
Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents to support motion applications, mediation briefs and pre-trial memoranda.
Prepare and present legal educational seminars to the claims department.
Maintain productive and effective communications with the claims department and adjusters.
What you bring to the table:
Law Degree (LLB or JD) from accredited Canadian university or equivalent.
Minimum of five to seven years of insurance litigation experience.

Role Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities
The Assistant Director is accountable to oversee and review investigations conducted by the SiRT to ensure impartiality, objectivity, independence, high investigative standards, and the completeness of investigative reports in a timely and expeditious manner. The Assistant Director is also accountable to promote, foster and create a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment and team to lead and foster the development of relationships in diverse communities. Responsible to conduct investigations into all matters that fall within section 26 of the Nova Scotia Police Act and section 24 of the New Brunswick Police Act.

Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this opportunity, you hold a Bachelor of laws degree with experience in criminal law. The successful applicant will have experience in managing major case files. The Assistant Director must understand and exercise the proper use of discretion. They must have knowledge and a sound understanding of law enforcement principles and techniques; and federal and provincial legislation, statutes, regulations, and policies related to law enforcement. The incumbent will possess excellent administrative, organizational, management, mediation and conflict resolution skills and be able to provide leadership to investigative staff in a high energy and sometimes challenging working environment. To ensure there is no perception of bias, the Assistant Director must not be and must never have been a police officer in any jurisdiction.
The Assistant Director must demonstrate good judgement, integrity, objectivity, tact, and strong ethical values. You also possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the needs of all persons involved in the investigative process and to the public and its communities.

Main Purpose & Function The Legal Assistant I will provide a full range of senior legal assistant support for two or more in-house lawyers in the Litigation Practice Group in the Law Department at the City of Vancouver. Main Purpose & Function The Legal Assistant I will provide a full range of senior legal assistant support for two or more in-house lawyers in the Litigation Practice Group in the Law Department at the City of Vancouver. Assist lawyers in the Litigation Practice Group with the organization, co-ordination and management of legal files from creation to close. Work is performed in accordance with established standards and procedures and includes:
creating, maintaining and updating of a variety of records relating to litigation matters in progress;

obtaining Court dates or City Council Hearing dates and setting matters for Trial or Hearing, diarizing appropriate dates, and assisting lawyers in all aspects of preparing a case including following up and resolution of outstanding matters with internal and external contacts to ensure appropriate completion of matters and/or readiness for Trial or Hearing;
liaising with others (internal and external) to provide and receive information; and
providing administrative support to assigned lawyers;
Record, track and report on department statistics relating to the work performed.
Practice area responsibilities include:
General Litigation and/or Enforcement:
Assists lawyers with litigation files (which may include matters relating to general/civil litigation, injunctions, business license hearings, chauffeur permit appeals and/or coroner’s inquests, including:

In the Team environment of Legal Services, Legal Assistants may be required to work for several lawyers at the same time & have additional expertise in one or more of the following areas of law: Litigation, Prosecutions, Solicitor Services (Advisory Services, Corp/Comm &/or Real Property) Reporting operationally to their assigned lawyers and the Prosecution Coordinator & administratively to the Business Unit Coordinator, the Legal Assistant is responsible for a wide variety of legal and administrative duties within the Legal Services division, with a high degree of confidentiality. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparation of legal documents & correspondence, dictation transcription; paper & electronic filing; managing correspondence; processing invoices; responding to inquiries and interacting with internal clients, external parties, and the public. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as well as broad and thorough knowledge of legal concepts, practices, and principles. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (may specialize in one or both): Solicitor Services & Real Property
Ability to prepare a broad range of legal documents and correspondence for residential and commercial real estate transactions including, but not limited to, deeds, easements, legal descriptions, HST Certificates, Direction, and Statements of Adjustments & Proceeds, Parcel Description Certification Applications (PDCA) and Applications for Registration (AFRs) as well as final reports
Reviews document packages received from other Business Units for completeness prior to forwarding to solicitor for approval and execution
Tracks closing dates and other deadlines, following up as necessary with assigned lawyer, client(s) and external solicitors
Conducts title searches, sub-searches and PPSA (Personal Property Security Act) searches, as required and acts as designated contact for requisition of all HRM title searches required by Legal Services as well as other business units;
Conducts general and title related property research regarding easements, rights-of-way and property ownership as required
Ensures documents are vault filed with the Clerk’s office, when required
Litigation and Labour
Maintains knowledge of litigation file timelines regarding statutory limitations and deadlines, providing reminders and updates to solicitor as needed
Assists solicitor to coordinate witnesses, client contacts, and organization of discovery and/or arbitration meetings
General understanding of Collective Agreements, Unions and arbitration hearings
Prepares evidence, arbitration binders, and any reference documents required by solicitor for court or hearings

Vous participerez également à un programme rigoureux de sports et de conditionnement physique. Le cours de QMBO est offert en anglais ou en français et sa réussite constitue un préalable à la poursuite de l’instruction.
À la suite de la formation de base des officiers, une formation en seconde langue officielle peut vous être offerte. La formation peut durer de deux à neuf mois selon vos compétences en langue seconde.
Pendant votre première affectation, vous devrez terminer toute l’instruction professionnelle de base qui vous permettra de travailler dans les différents domaines liés au groupe du JAG.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling complex maritime legal matters, including international regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, writing investor and partnerships grant funding contracts and all contracts related to maritime ventures. The candidate should possess excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to provide strategic legal counsel in the maritime industry, on climate change and global warming through collaboration with an oceanographic institute, investors, and stakeholders. Must be a Treasure Artifact Sales Specialist selling treasure artifacts through legal channels. Specialization in art law and cultural heritage law. Must have a Canadian Law background.
Responsibilities:
1. Legal expertise:
· Legal advice and guidance on international maritime law, including other relevant international conventions.

3. Due Diligence

Qualifications
· Must have a bachelor’s in law degree from an accredited Canadian law school.

· A minimum of 15 years of experience practicing maritime law, with a focus on international maritime law and maritime contracts.

Job Summary: Canadian Adventure Charter is seeking a 15-year experienced and highly knowledgeable Maritime Lawyer specializing in international maritime law and maritime contracts to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling complex maritime legal matters, including international regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, writing investor and partnerships grant funding contracts and all contracts related to maritime ventures. The candidate should possess excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to provide strategic legal counsel in the maritime industry, on climate change and global warming through collaboration with an oceanographic institute, investors, and stakeholders. Must be a Treasure Artifact Sales Specialist selling treasure artifacts through legal channels. Specialization in art law and cultural heritage law. Must have a Canadian Law background.
Responsibilities:
1. Legal expertise:
· Legal advice and guidance on international maritime law, including other relevant international conventions.
· In Canadian maritime law.
· Treasure Artifact Sales Specialist selling treasure artifacts through legal channels. Also, expertise in national and international laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines governing the sale, trade, and export of valuable historical and archaeological artifacts.
· Strong expertise in Art law and cultural heritage law.
· To ensure strict adherence to local, and international laws and regulations governing the sale and trade of historical artifacts. This includes familiarity with Conventions
· On climate change and global warming through collaboration with an oceanographic institute, investors, and stakeholders.
· In international law on legal matters in Panama, Europe and more.
· Strong knowledge of the Maritime Historical Museum
· To ensure the company takes the lion's share of the profits in a business partnership.
· Import-export regulations complex landscape for historical artifacts, including securing necessary permits and licenses.
2. Dispute Resolution
· Handle maritime and other disputes, including arbitration and litigation, involving vessel collisions, cargo claims, salvage, pollution, and other maritime-related issues.
· Represent the company in negotiations and mediation to resolve maritime or other disputes.
3. Due Diligence
· Conduct due diligence on maritime and other transactions, including vessel acquisitions, mergers, and acquisitions, to assess legal risks and provide recommendations.
· Prepare legal opinions and reports for CAC on due diligence.
4. Legal Research and Analysis
· Legal research on maritime, environmental. commercial and cultural Heritage laws, regulations, and precedents to support legal strategies and opinions.
· Analyze complex legal issues and provide clear and practical advice.
5. Compliance law
· Stay up to date with international maritime or other regulations and advise on compliance requirements, including environmental regulations, safety standards, and flag state obligations.
· Assist CAC in obtaining necessary permits, licenses, and approvals for maritime operations.
6. Documentation and Legal Drafting
· Draft, review, agreements, and prepare legal documents, including contracts, agreements, briefs, legal opinions, memorandums and more ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
· Structure and negotiate investors related to maritime ventures, joint ventures, equity investments, and financing arrangements.
· Ensure that investor contracts align with the objectives and interests of CAC and the investors.
· Vendor contracts, partnership agreements and negotiate a wide range of maritime contracts, including charter agreements, shipbuilding, vessel sale and purchase agreements, maritime financing agreements, partnerships grant funding with global oceanographic research institutes and universities, dry dock, marina berth/membership, boathouse sales/rental, floating homes sale and rental, marine and aviation fuel/lube, dis-charge supply, legal memorandums for yacht brokers, charter management companies, Uboat Works. Including reviewing contracts and working with insurance companies and with offshore banks and government departments in Canada, USA, and Europe, including any/all countries and international waters in CAC will be operating.
Qualifications
· Must have a bachelor’s in law degree from an accredited Canadian law school.
· Member of Canadian Bar Law.
· A minimum of 15 years of experience practicing maritime law, with a focus on international maritime law and maritime contracts.
· Expert in international maritime conventions, regulations, and industry standards.
· Proven experience in negotiating complex maritime contracts and handling maritime disputes.
· Treasure Artifact Sales Specialist selling treasure artifacts through legal channels and requires extensive knowledge in this area.
· Strong Knowledge of Environmental Law.
· Strong knowledge of Cultural Heritage Law.
· Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
