Legal Counsel - Litigation & Employment Matters (18-month Contract)

Ontario Bar / Common Law / Litigation / Employment Matters / Working from home

 

You will be a part of a dynamic, national legal department serving our business lines and subsidiaries. You will represent the company in litigation and manage external counsel in litigation. Although litigation work will be a key focus of the work you will be handling, you will also provide legal opinions and advice in employment law related matters. This is a contract position that can start as soon as possible and will end in early 2025.

As the ideal candidate you will be called to the Ontario Bar* and enjoy working in a flexible, inclusive and collaborative team environment. You are someone who:

 

• Has at least 3 to 5 years experience in life, disability or accident insurance litigation.
• Has experience in employment law, including drafting agreements, conducting workplace. investigations, and providing general HR related advice including in litigation.
• Demonstrates strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Can balance priorities under tight deadlines.
• Has learning agility, a strong work ethic, initiative, and a client-service orientation.
• Can communicate complex legal issues using simple, non-legal language.
• Seeks the flexibility of a hybrid work environment.
• Has excellent communication skills (French language skills will be an asset to your application).
• Has experience working in a Lean Management environment.
• Has experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Teams.
