Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Ontario Medical Association Insurance (OMAI), the Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice to OMAI.

You Will Make a Difference By
  • Supporting the Vice President, OMAI to provide professional legal services and expertise to the OMAI, analyzing and interpreting application legislation/legal texts/contracts/case laws, compliance, privacy, identifying areas of risk and vulnerability, providing legal advice and recommending strategies/tactics to mitigate risks and limit liabilities and exposure. Areas of services include legal support for insurance, financial services, and corporate/commercial matters.
  • Supporting the Vice President OMAI, in negotiating agreements (including policies) on behalf of the OMAI, and relevant to it’s a parent company, OMA, reviewing documents and reports, analyzing contract/agreement details, determining degrees of risk and exposure, documenting outcomes of meetings and discussions, developing strategies and tactics to advocate on client’s behalf and ensuring relevant information is communicated, distributed and appropriately filed.
  • Developing strong, collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand activities and legal/business issues, identifying opportunities to leverage resources and share information, collaborating on projects and initiatives and influencing outcomes.
Requirements That Are Important To Us
  • Experience/Skills Required Law Degree, LLB/JD, LSUC membership
  • 2-4 years experience in insurance law, financial services, and compliance
The OMA and its subsidiaries have moved to a permanent hybrid work environment. As such, the individual in this position will be required to work a minimum number of days in our Toronto office.
