Full time Lawyer (Private Practice)

Job Description

Davies is a law firm focused on high-stakes matters. Committed to achieving superior outcomes for our clients, we are consistently at the heart of their most complex deals and cases. With offices in Toronto, Montréal and New York, our capabilities extend seamlessly to every continent.

We are currently seeking a lawyer with general corporate and securities transactional experience to join our Knowledge Management (KM) team in Toronto. The ideal candidate will have two to five years of client-facing practice experience, ideally within a top-tier transactional business law firm.

As KM Counsel, you will have the opportunity to substantively build and hone your legal expertise as well as analytical and drafting skills to develop precedents and generate awareness. In addition to contributing to thought-leadership through your own research and analysis, you will benefit from collaborating with all practice groups to mine their intellectual capital and convert existing knowledge into state-of-the-art precedents and other resources, focusing on excellence in quality, consistency and efficiency.

This position will appeal to an intellectually curious lawyer with an interest in business law research, drafting contracts and writing legal memos. The ideal candidate appreciates the learning environment of private practice, is committed to exceptional client service and thrives in a stimulating, fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing new, as well as enhancing and maintaining existing, precedents and other practice resources to support and contribute to the corporate/securities practice group
  • Leveraging your precedent work and current awareness engagement to advise lawyers and discuss the legal issues which they face in their matters
  • Preparing and delivering legal training to the firm’s lawyers and law students
  • Working closely with lawyers to identify and gather new, valuable knowledge resources, and to maintain our existing collections of precedents and research materials
  • Participating in the development of knowledge pertaining to new laws and other legal developments
  • Responding to requests for KM resources using the firm’s KM collections and enterprise search tool
  • Staying current on developments in legal technology and how it may support the practice

Skills and Experience

  • A law degree with two to five years of client-facing practice experience, ideally with a top-tier transactional business law firm
  • Strong academic credentials and able to think strategically, demonstrating well-honed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and able to explain concepts clearly and concisely
  • Strong client service skills and a self-starter who is highly organized, motivated, attentive to detail and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a larger team

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their cover letter, resumé and academic transcripts, in complete confidence, to recruitment@dwpv.com, quoting reference number Law 23-0220 in the subject line. Alternatively, you may upload your materials via the LinkedIn job posting.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
