What does this role look like?
The purpose of this position is to oversee the provision of legal services to the organization and to provide senior leadership and strategic direction to the Legal Services Department. What will you do?

▪Serves as a member of the Superintendents’ Team. Participates in planning, establishment of strategies, goals, objectives, regulations, procedures of the system, Board delegated matters, Board Governance, Board Policies and legislated duties pursuant to the Education Act.
▪In conjunction with the Chief Superintendent, supports the monitoring and adherence to Board Policies and establishes standards, procedures, work plans consistent with Administration Regulations and Board Policies for the Service Unit.
▪Works in consultation with other service unit Directors, Education Directors, Superintendents, schools, internal and external consultants and other professional agencies to obtain information and/or resolve issues pertaining to the functions of the Service Unit.
▪Coordinates preparations of administrative reports to the board and Administrative Committee meetings. Reviews, evaluates and approves submission and placement of the agenda. Monitors implementation of decisions made at the administrative meetings and the Board. Prepares progress reports on implementation of decisions for the attention of the Chief Superintendent and communicates board decisions to appropriate agencies or individuals.

What are we looking for?
Education and Experience
▪Qualified to practice law in Alberta
▪Minimum ten years general practice experience in some or all of the following areas of the law: labour; contracts; employment, education; insurance; negligence; family; real property; administrative; and general litigation.
▪Minimum 5 years senior leadership experience.
▪Experience with public sector organizations, K-12 educational institutions is preferred.

Must-have

As Managing Counsel supporting certain of the Canadian Wealth Management securities distribution businesses, you will provide legal support on key strategic initiatives and projects, advise on regulatory developments, assist in formulating and executing policies and procedures for the business, as well as provide legal support on various matters. You will work directly with senior management of Wealth Management, as well as their functional support groups in providing such legal support, including dealing with associated legal risks.

What will you do?
As a senior corporate and securities law expert, provide sound, creative and practical legal advice and counsel to certain Canadian Wealth Management (CWM) securities distribution businesses on a wide range of issues relating to retail investment distribution, demonstrating a commitment to exceptional service to functional and business partners.
Encourage practical and innovative solutions, having regard to the business objectives of CWM.
Provide senior legal support on account management related matters, such as interpreting and amending account agreements and forms, assisting in policy development and supporting compliance investigations.
Identify, assess and manage legal, reputational and regulatory risk relating primarily to securities regulatory matters, but with flexibility to manage legal and regulatory matters spanning a wide breadth of subject matter areas.
Manage the cost and performance of external counsel as required to support matters with a particular focus on negotiating alternative fee arrangements.
Coordinate and liaise with functional partners on new initiatives to mitigate legal risk and ensure compliance.
Collaborate with other lawyers in the Law Group, as well as other business support teams, and work closely with them to promote alignment to overall enterprise strategy and applicable lines of business.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Bachelor of Law from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction.
At least 10+ years of relevant experience gained at a large law firm, financial institution or securities regulator.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with teams that are diverse and multi-disciplinary.
Strategic and practical thinker with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, make independent decisions, exercise sound judgment, and work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team focused on identifying patentable inventions, preparing and prosecuting patents, evaluating their business, technical, and legal implications, and ensuring robust patent protection across diverse jurisdictions in alignment with Ericsson’s strategic goals.
What you will do:
As the head of the PU-CA, you will lead a team of currently 13 patent attorneys and paralegals in Canada (Montreal and Ottawa).
Provide IPR support for Ericsson’s R&D operations wherein you will work closely with inventors and innovative technology such as 3GPP telecom standards, security, AI, Wi-Fi, and video streaming and media.
Conduct resource planning in PU-CA, including recruiting and developing of talents.
Be responsible for achieving the patent unit performance and development targets.
You will report to the Head of Patent Creation Area 2 and collaborate closely through a cross-functional team with the other patent unit managers and representatives from licensing, assertion, and portfolio management.
Independently assess invention disclosures and make decisions regarding patent filings.
Prepare, draft, and prosecute patent applications either independently or in collaboration with external counsel, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Create claim charts and provide support for global licensing activities and litigations and engage in projects and activities related to the global PCM organization.
The skills you bring:
A relevant academic background such as a master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Telecommunications, Physics, or equivalent.
Qualified to practice before the USPTO (CIPO a plus) and detailed knowledge of patents and the patent creation process with at least 5 years of experience.
Strong leadership qualities, stakeholder management, outstanding communication and networking skills, and experience in a multi-national and multi-cultural team engagement, also remotely.
Preferably with experience in managing, mentoring, and guiding others to foster a collaborative and innovative culture. You are eager to drive for results and try out new ways of working.
Extensive experience with patent applications, claims, and prosecution processes.
Strong understanding of patent infringement issues and related legal considerations.
Proven track record in managing and developing patent portfolios.
Expertise in intellectual property laws, including international patent regulations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and being a team-player.
