NBC, together with its subsidiaries, forms one of Canada’s leading integrated financial groups offering a variety of financial services to a diversified clientele (including corporations, institutional customers and governments) through its Financial Markets divisions. Our organization has operations in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, New York, London, Dublin and Hong Kong.

We are expanding our team of passionate professionals within the Financial Markets (“FM”) Compliance group, and we are looking for a senior legal professional to support certain FM Compliance Programs with a cross-border and/or securities financing element (the Volcker Rule, various regulatory reporting regimes, OTC Derivatives-related regulations, fully-paid securities lending programs). This position will also entail supporting various special regulatory initiatives and the development of new compliance programs.

Your main challenges:

  • Help identify and advise on strategic regulatory priorities in collaboration with other professionals within the organization;
  • Lead and/or participate on cross-functional working committees to evaluate the impact of regulatory initiatives and assist with their implementation;
  • Help draft and update compliance policies and procedures;
  • Support the development of a Canadian compliance program for OTC derivatives and securities financing activities;
  • Advise business line partners and market risk partners on the application of: (a) various Volcker Rule compliance requirements; and (b) fully-paid lending compliance requirements, and help maintain related compliance program policies and procedures up-to-date;
  • Develop and deliver targeted compliance training and support to business partners and other employees within the organization.

Target Profile

  • University degree in law and 6 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Good understanding of Canadian Financial Markets regulations (OSFI, CSA, IIROC).
  • Legal or regulatory experience related to Securities Financing and Treasury activities is an asset.
  • Legal or regulatory experience related to OTC derivatives is also an asset.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to identify key issues, synthesize information and present to business units and other internal partners in a clear and practical manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability work under pressure and effectively prioritize between multiple projects.
  • Independent, results-oriented, resourceful and a self-starter.
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills.
