BASF Canada’s Agricultural Solutions division is relocating its head office from Mississauga to Calgary effective October 1, 2019 and BASF is looking for a lawyer to join the Team as Legal Counsel.

Located in Calgary and reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, you will provide legal support to BASF Canada’s Agricultural Solutions’ seed and crop protection business.


In This Role: You Will…

  • Provide proactive, strategic and practical advice and support, locally, regionally and globally, on a dynamic range of corporate and commercial legal issues affecting BASF Agricultural Solutions
  • Draft, negotiate, review, revise and interpret a broad spectrum of legal documents including but not limited to sales contracts, purchase agreements, supply agreements, production agreements, leases (and land related agreements), warehousing agreements, intercompany agreements, non-disclosure agreements, field trial agreements, material transfer agreements, service agreements, licenses, data processing agreements, marketing letters, and various others
  • Provide legal support for:
    • Land matters across the Canadian BASF business
    • Complaints, disputes and litigation
    • Procurement matters
    • Internal and external projects and transactions
  • Engage regularly with stakeholders in respect of business strategy and objectives
  • Retain and manage external legal counsel
  • Be a key member of the BASF Canada Legal Team and participate in the direction and growth of the BASF Canada Legal Team
  • Perform other duties, as required

Formula for Success: The Candidate…


  • Holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized institution
  • Is an active member in good standing with The Law Society of Alberta
  • Has a minimum of 7 years legal experience that includes proficiency with a vast array of corporate/commercial matters (in-house experience is an asset)
  • Has excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Has strong business acumen
  • Has considerable skill and ability to handle many projects simultaneously, to manage multiple tight deadlines, and to prioritize effectively
  • Has strong analytical and negotiation skill
