As our General Counsel you would be responsible for leading the effective operations of Fraser Health's Legal Services, Risk Management and Information Privacy portfolios. Also ensuring that the strategic, financial, legal and business risks to the organization are identified and handled appropriately.

Key areas of involvement include:

  • Provides legal advice and strategic guidance to corporate and operational departments, senior leadership, and the Board of Directors on a wide variety of legal matters/issues regarding business and strategic imperatives.
  • Development of risk management strategies to minimize impact of clinical and operational risks to the organization.
  • Interprets legal opinions and identify potential legal issues and develops legal strategies for senior leadership to mitigate or eliminate situations of legal risk.
  • Ensure compliance with public and administrative law principles, including principles of good governance, procedural fairness, transparency, and public accountability.
  • Drafts and interprets contracts, forms, documents, proposals, policies, guidelines, and strategy papers for legal effect; provides expert legal advice on implications and available courses of action.
  • Leads the Freedom of Information (FOI) Office ensuring organizational compliance with access to information and disclosure obligations.
  • Works collaboratively with senior management to incorporate and embed risk management initiatives into strategic and operational plans.

Here is what we are looking for you to bring to this position:

  • Law Degree from an accredited University.
  • Current member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years'' recent, related in-house and/or external corporate law experience with expertise in Enterprise Risk Management.
