What does this role look like?
The purpose of this position is to oversee the provision of legal services to the organization and to provide senior leadership and strategic direction to the Legal Services Department. What will you do?

▪Serves as a member of the Superintendents’ Team. Participates in planning, establishment of strategies, goals, objectives, regulations, procedures of the system, Board delegated matters, Board Governance, Board Policies and legislated duties pursuant to the Education Act.
▪In conjunction with the Chief Superintendent, supports the monitoring and adherence to Board Policies and establishes standards, procedures, work plans consistent with Administration Regulations and Board Policies for the Service Unit.
▪Works in consultation with other service unit Directors, Education Directors, Superintendents, schools, internal and external consultants and other professional agencies to obtain information and/or resolve issues pertaining to the functions of the Service Unit.
▪Coordinates preparations of administrative reports to the board and Administrative Committee meetings. Reviews, evaluates and approves submission and placement of the agenda. Monitors implementation of decisions made at the administrative meetings and the Board. Prepares progress reports on implementation of decisions for the attention of the Chief Superintendent and communicates board decisions to appropriate agencies or individuals.

What are we looking for?
Education and Experience
▪Qualified to practice law in Alberta
▪Minimum ten years general practice experience in some or all of the following areas of the law: labour; contracts; employment, education; insurance; negligence; family; real property; administrative; and general litigation.
▪Minimum 5 years senior leadership experience.
▪Experience with public sector organizations, K-12 educational institutions is preferred.

This role supports the business in navigating complex challenges and delivering strategic, practical legal advice in a highly regulated environment.
How you’ll spend your day
Legal Business Partner Support:
Manage and oversee a diverse portfolio of legal matters impacting the Canadian organization, including but not limited to purchase and/or divestment of assets, alliance management, agreement negotiation and drafting, advising on local laws, legal counselling, litigation matters, regulations, and company policies.
Act as a strong and reliable business partner interfacing with cross-functional units and attending various business meetings to provide legal input.
Oversee external legal counsel, manage legal spend, and connect issues and opportunities across the business to drive the company's success.
Support the Executive Counsel as needed and provide legal advice and support to the Company's various business units in the Canadian business.
All other Business Partner duties as required.
Non-IP Litigation and Regulatory Compliance:
Manage important non-IP litigation including but not limited to HR and employee matters, mediations, employment and labour standard issues.
Participate in business meetings and provide training on issues related to rebate and customer contracting, formulary placement, and payer agreements.

Support audits of customer utilization and compliance with rebate agreements.

Lead and support the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of commercial agreements.

Your experience and qualifications
Education Required: Juris Doctorate
Experience Required: Minimum of 12+ years of experience in private practice and/or in-house setting experience in a related industry
Experience Preferred: Work experience in a firm or legal experience in a pharmaceutical/ Healthcare/ Life sciences matrix-based organization is a preferred
Experience managing and resolving complex/sensitive problems
The ability to work effectively on unclear, ambiguous, or contradictory problems

Serve as legal and regulatory counsel to underwriters of commercial lines underwriting business units including provision of timely legal advice and guidance on a wide range of insurance/reinsurance and corporate issues

Review of marketing material

Qualifications . Law Degree from an accredited Canadian law school is required and you must be a licensed attorney in at least one Canadian Province

Based in Iqaluit, NU, the Legal Counsel works within the Legal and Constitutional Law Division of the Department of Justice. This Division was the winner of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association Legal Team of the Year Award in 2023. Under the general direction of the Deputy Minister of Justice and the Director of Legal and Constitutional Law the incumbent will provide legal services to Cabinet, all government departments and certain public agencies. This position also represents the interests of the Government of Nunavut in all court and tribunal proceedings, in intergovernmental and other negotiations. Incumbents to the position will provide legal services in relation to commercial law matters, including drafting and reviewing major contracts, contribution agreements, and templates for use by various government departments. QUALIFICATIONS
A Common Law degree (e.g., JD, or LLB) from a recognized Canadian University or a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
Must be eligible for unrestricted membership in the Law Society of Nunavut and/or be a member in good standing of a Provincial or Territorial Bar.
Demonstrate excellent written and oral English language skills.

Based in Iqaluit, NU, the Legal Counsel works within the Legal and Constitutional Law Division of the Department of Justice. This Division was the winner of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association Legal Team of the Year Award in 2023. Under the general direction of the Deputy Minister of Justice and the Director of Legal and Constitutional Law the incumbent will provide legal services to Cabinet, all government departments and certain public agencies. This position also represents the interests of the Government of Nunavut in all court and tribunal proceedings, in intergovernmental and other negotiations. Incumbents to the position will provide legal services in relation to commercial law matters, including drafting and reviewing major contracts, contribution agreements, and templates for use by various government departments. Incumbents will also provide legal advice and services in relation government procurement, labour and employment law, the Nunavut Agreement, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms .
QUALIFICATIONS
A Common Law degree (e.g., JD, or LLB) from a recognized Canadian University or a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
Must be eligible for unrestricted membership in the Law Society of Nunavut and/or be a member in good standing of a Provincial or Territorial Bar.
Demonstrate excellent written and oral English language skills.
Sound judgment, and keen understanding of clients’ interests and needs.
At least two (2) years experience doing either similar legal work or work of a type and breadth that demonstrates competence in a Government Legal Counsel environment.
ASSETS
Experience in one or more of the following areas: Corporate Commercial Law, Litigation, Environmental Law, Construction Law.
Ability to communicate in Inuktitut.
Knowledge of the Inuit communities, culture, and land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and Inuktut.

About Our Opportunity
These positions are based in Western Region will report to the Chief Crown Attorney, Western Region, to whom the incumbent is accountable for the provision of competent prosecution services. The Crown Attorney will advise law enforcement agencies when requested. Qualifications and Experience

About Our Opportunity
These positions are based in Western Region will report to the Chief Crown Attorney, Western Region, to whom the incumbent is accountable for the provision of competent prosecution services. The Crown Attorney will advise law enforcement agencies when requested. Other key responsibilities include conducting the prosecution of charges resulting from matters within the Public Prosecution Service mandate that result from law enforcement agency investigations and other prosecutions and duties as directed by the Chief Crown Attorney, Western Region.
Qualifications and Experience
You are a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society (or eligible to become so) and have a thorough understanding of the prosecution process, and competence in the areas of criminal procedures, evidence, and substantive criminal law. You must have at least one (1) year of significant criminal litigation experience. You may be required to travel throughout the province to prosecute cases and may be required to do so for extended periods of time. Successful applicants may be required to provide a current Certificate of Standing from their law society, including all jurisdictions of which they are members, whether non-practicing or practicing. The above qualifications will be assessed using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a term employment opportunity, located in Kentville, with anticipated end date of March 3, 2026. Must have access to reliable transportation as travel throughout the region and across the province is required.
