BACKGROUND
Nova Scotia Legal Aid and Sipekne'katik First Nation are partnering on an exciting new initiative of addressing the current barriers Sipekne'katik community members face when accessing legal services outside of Community. Nova Scotia Legal Aid is working with Sipekne'katik to provide legal services and educational initiatives by opening a legal aid office on Sipekne'katik First Nation.
Sipekne’katik First Nation is a Mi’kmaw community with over 3,000 band members located in Hants County, Nova Scotia. Sipekne’katik is one of the seven geographic districts of Mi’kma’ki – the ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq that encompasses Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, and Maine.
Sipekne’katik is a community rooted in the traditions and history of its ancestors, taking pride in their Mi’kmaw culture, language and way of life. Sipekne’katik includes the communities of Indian Brook (now called Sipekne’katik), New Ross, Pennal, Dodd’s Lot, Hammonds Plains, and Grand Lake.

A strong understanding of relevant statutes, including the Provincial Offences Act and its practices and procedures, the Evidence Act, the Charter of Rights, related statutes and regulations, common law and the ability to apply this knowledge when prosecuting. Our ideal candidate is a recent graduate with a strong interest in municipal, administrative, or public law.
The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and maintain a positive public image. This candidate will also possess strong organizational, oral, written, communication, interpersonal, administrative, research analytic and skills with excellent research and problem-solving skills and have demonstrated ability to execute all duties, including exercising good judgment and discretion, impartially, professionally, and objectively, without fear of favor and without prejudice or bias in accordance with standards normally associated with the Crown Attorney’s office.

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Contracts Lawyer to join our U.S. Dairy Foods Division legal team. This role will involve providing comprehensive legal support to various sectors, including operations, sales, distribution, marketing, real estate, procurement, and information technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, negotiate, and interpret a wide range of commercial agreements.
Offer legal counsel and strategic advice to management.
Provide ongoing legal support to departments and business units related to U.S. operations.
Qualifications:
2 to 4 years of experience in commercial law.
Strong legal knowledge with proven problem-solving skills.
Exceptional writing and negotiation abilities.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Provide general corporate advice (contracts, marketing law, etc.) as well as labor and employment legal advice and support to the People and Performance team, including the manufacturing plant personnel.
Draft, review and advise a wide range of commercial agreements including contracts for procurement, logistics, equipment supply, confidentiality protection, advertising agencies, talent, sponsorships, and promotional activities.
Provide legal advice and business counsel in connection with a wide range of business activities, such as product innovation, food law, advertising, consumer issues, media placements, privacy law, policy compliance, corporate communications, special situations, education and training, trademarks and copyrights, strategy, and general business issues that arise in connection with the matters highlighted above.
Create, implement, and manage processes to timely review and revise contest and promotion rules, including integrated creative and advertising copy, using identified legal standards, to ensure consistency of approach while achieving legal compliance of Kraft Heinz promotional programs.
Take responsibility for complex and corporate scale promotions.
Manage department document management, corporate governance and compliance functions through good file and database management. Maintain corporate status by preparing and filing relevant annual documents for Kraft Heinz Canada ULC and all related Canadian entities, while maintaining corporate minute books for Kraft Heinz Canada ULC and all related Canadian entities. Prepare, file and maintain all provincial business name registrations as required. Draft various director and shareholder resolutions, prepare and file lobbyist registration renewals, and other regulatory matters as needed.

Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise litigation files in Canada, before the Canadian Transportation Agency and other tribunals in Canada and in various countries, in collaboration with paralegals and external counsel, including drafting and reviewing legal proceedings.
Analyse legal basis of claims, analyse evidence on file, and determine defence strategy.
Build out case strategy, set out documents needed as evidence, draft court proceedings and ensure all documents are ready for production in a timely and complete fashion.
Review and oversee defences drafted by other lawyers and paralegals.
Support the defence strategy process for CTA claims, to enhance success rates, reduce turnaround times.
Manage case calendars and ensure that timelines are followed throughout all stages of the evidence gathering and defence drafting process.
In collaboration with IT, optimize the use of technology to effectively manage high volumes of litigation claims.
Analyse and maintain a database of successful and unsuccessful defenses in order to improve efficiency over time, as well as to improve Air Canada's overall success rate for CTA claims.
Identify possible efficiencies in workflows and opportunities for systemic improvements in evidence gathering and defence drafting, for discussion and review.
Qualifications
Hold a Bachelor's degree in or higher in law, and be a member of the bar in one of the Canadian provinces.
2-5 years' experience in litigation
Experience in airline operation, airline management, project management, or claims management is an asset.
Strong organizational skills, creative and strategic.
Good analytical skills, ability to identify issues in workflows, develop thoughtful solutions and rally support to redefine approaches and achieve workable solutions.
Good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to convey messages and thoughts clearly, and concisely.

Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise litigation files in Canada, before the Canadian Transportation Agency and other tribunals in Canada and in various countries, in collaboration with paralegals and external counsel, including drafting and reviewing legal proceedings.
Analyse legal basis of claims, analyse evidence on file, and determine defence strategy.
Build out case strategy, set out documents needed as evidence, draft court proceedings and ensure all documents are ready for production in a timely and complete fashion.
Review and oversee defences drafted by other lawyers and paralegals.
Support the defence strategy process for CTA claims, to enhance success rates, reduce turnaround times.
Manage case calendars and ensure that timelines are followed throughout all stages of the evidence gathering and defence drafting process.
In collaboration with IT, optimize the use of technology to effectively manage high volumes of litigation claims.
Analyse and maintain a database of successful and unsuccessful defenses in order to improve efficiency over time, as well as to improve Air Canada's overall success rate for CTA claims.
Identify possible efficiencies in workflows and opportunities for systemic improvements in evidence gathering and defence drafting, for discussion and review.
Qualifications
Hold a Bachelor's degree in or higher in law, and be a member of the bar in one of the Canadian provinces.
2-5 years' experience in litigation
Experience in airline operation, airline management, project management, or claims management is an asset.
Strong organizational skills, creative and strategic.
Good analytical skills, ability to identify issues in workflows, develop thoughtful solutions and rally support to redefine approaches and achieve workable solutions.
Good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to convey messages and thoughts clearly, and concisely.

Qualifications
Education
Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
Currently enrolled in an existing post-secondary institution in a related field or a new graduate from a legal curriculum.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to research and analyze data.
Ability to scrutinize the integrity of research and data collected.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with Member Services.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to take direction, work independently, and plan, organize, and prioritize workloads.
Excellent client service skills with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Basic computer skills and applications.
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Keen eye for detail.

Job Description
The Legal Assistant will assist the Senior Director in her duties and will be responsible for monitoring department files and projects, as well as performing various administrative tasks for the Senior Director and the entire Legal Affairs team.
Responsibilities
Assist in all day-to-day tasks in support of the immediate superior (formatting various documents, typing legal documents, drafting correspondence, contracts, translating documents, presentations, managing the electronic agenda, etc.), making business travel reservations, preparing expense and VISA reports, obtaining payment confirmations from the Finance department when required. Assist the immediate superior on an ad hoc basis with specific projects and requests and provide administrative support to other team members when required.
Assist the immediate superior in the preparation of drafts of demand letters, releases, schedules and other documents required to manage litigation files. Prepare the various documents required to obtain all relevant information in class action and litigation files, as well as assist the immediate superior in gathering information and preparing all requested documents to be sent to the various law firms representing us in these files. Prepare correspondence to insurers to notify them of potential litigation.
Provide rigorous administrative support to the immediate superior in large-scale investigations with regulatory authorities.
Support the immediate superior in the development of the various steps and the preparation of the various documents required in anticipation of the Audit Committee meetings for 2023-2024. Ensure that requests from the president of the Audit Committee and its members are carried out in a timely manner.
Open and file documents (new and in progress) punctually in their respective folders in the electronic legal affairs directory.
Perform all other tasks related to the position.
Qualifications
Recognized studies in legal secretarial or the equivalent or a legal technique.
3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position;
Litigation experience (an asset);
Organizational sense, efficiency, rigour and autonomy;
Ability to work on multiple files while adapting to new priorities and meeting deadlines;
Ability to work individually (with minimum supervision) or in a team;
Essential bilingualism (fluency in oral and written French and English),
Excellent writing and presentation skills;
Discretion, professionalism and resourcefulness;
Excellent knowledge of Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel and PowerPoint;
Knowledge of Spanish (an asset).
