JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

Trillium Health Partners (THP) is seeking a strategic and results-oriented lawyer to join its Legal Services Team. Aligned with the Hospital’s strategic direction, the candidate will provide a full spectrum of legal services across the organization with an emphasis on corporate/commercial advice and legal services within a public hospital regulatory regime, enabling the delivery of outstanding health care to the community. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of post-call legal experience focused on corporate/commercial law, gained at a leading law firm or in-house legal department. The candidate will report directly to and support the accountabilities of the Director, Corporate Law and Insurance and will have the opportunity to do the following:

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drafts and negotiates third party contracts, opinions and other legal documents;
  • Provides legal advice and information pertaining to the hospital’s research and innovation division;
  • Provides legal advice and information pertaining to hospital foundation matters;
  • Provides organization-wide legal advice and information pertaining to corporate/commercial, charity and not-for-profit, intellectual property and/or contractual privacy matters;
  • Supports contract management for the organization, working on occasion in collaboration with external procurement partners;
  • Actively supports corporate compliance with applicable laws and standards governing the organization’s operations;
  • Advises on the rollout of and compliance with regulatory changes in the healthcare sector;
  • Offers legal risk management advice.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • At least 3 to 5 years of post-call corporate/commercial experience
  • An understanding of corporate/commercial, charity and not-for-profit, intellectual property, procurement and/or privacy laws
  • Experience supporting the healthcare industry is an asset
  • Commitment to the hospital’s strategic plan, including becoming an antiracist organization
  • High level of composure with the ability to demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, tact, collaboration and courtesy, with the ability to manage a demanding practice and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented and client-focused with a commitment to excellence
  • Strong conceptual skills, systems thinking and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a dynamic, professional team
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently use and manage time and hospital resources

Position Location and Travel:

THP is the largest community-based hospital network in Canada. Comprised of the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital and the Queensway Health Centre, THP serves the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto and surrounding communities. As such, travel among THP’s three main sites may be required.
