Corporate Legal Clerk (Contract)
Duration: Contract/Secondment up to 18 months
Do you want to broaden your expertise in legal within the retail sector? You will provide confidential and administrative support to our in-house Corporate Legal Counsel team. You will support lawyers who provide advice on a wide range of complex corporate, business, contractual, regulatory and policy matters. You will also be an integral part of the Legal Department’s transition from a paper-based system to an electronic environment.

What’s the role about?
Drafting legal documents associated with commercial transactions.
Setting up, organizing, and maintaining legal files and document precedents.
Composing correspondence, ensuring adherence to style, format, and terminology.
Conducting corporate searches and other research as requested
Responding to enquiries regarding files and liaising with internal and external partners.
What will you bring to the team?
Associate Member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or a law clerk certificate/diploma (or equivalent) by an Ontario educational institution approved by ILCO or equivalent experience.
3+ years’ experience in a legal department or law firm focusing in the area of corporate and/or commercial law.
Deep knowledge of methods including an understanding of legal terminology, documents, formats, system terminology and phraseology, and processes associated with commercial transactions and related.
Proficiency in MS Office suite, including SharePoint, OneNote and knowledge of legal software.
Effective written communication skills including strong proofreading skills.
Previous experience working in a team environment where flexibility, keeping others informed, and anticipating needs are critical.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage, coordinate, prioritize, and maintain control of a large volume of complex legal documentation.
Superb customer service skills and the ability to ensure discretion in taking care of confidential and highly sensitive matters.
Expertise in producing accurate, detailed documents in a results-oriented, multitasking environment.
Ability to work independently using sound judgment in a professional legal environment.
