Position Overview As Legal Affairs Manager , reporting to the Director, Legal Affairs, you will provide strategic legal leadership to support Pomerleau's operations and major construction and infrastructure projects across Canada. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and project teams, you will oversee complex commercial and construction matters, manage legal risk, and lead a team of 1 to 2 Legal Counsels in delivering practical, business-focused solutions. Key Responsibilities Lead legal support for major construction and infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle. Draft, negotiate, and advise on complex construction, commercial, and partnership agreements. Provide strategic guidance on contractual risk, project delivery, and commercial matters. Support project financing initiatives and related lender requirements. Partner with business development and operations teams on procurement, bids, and contract negotiations. Drive the development and continuous improvement of contracting standards, templates, and processes. Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other professional advisors. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of legal professionals. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on legal, commercial, and strategic initiatives. What You Bring LL.B. or J.D. degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Approximately 10+ years of experience in construction, infrastructure, corporate, or commercial law. Strong experience negotiating and managing complex commercial and construction contracts, including alternative delivery and P3 projects. Knowledge of project delivery models such as DB, DBF, DBFOM, joint ventures, and consortium structures. Proven ability to manage legal and commercial risk in a fast-paced project environment. Experience leading and developing teams. Strong business acumen with exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Accompagner les équipes de soumissions et de développement des affaires dans les processus d'appel d'offres et de négociation. Développer et améliorer les standards, processus et modèles contractuels de l'organisation. Gérer les relations avec les conseillers juridiques externes. Encadrer, mobiliser et développer une équipe de professionnels juridiques. Agir à titre de conseiller de confiance auprès de la haute direction. Ce poste est fait pour toi si tu as Baccalauréat en droit (LL.B.) ou Juris Doctor (J.D.). Membre en règle du Barreau de l'Ontario. Environ 10 ans d'expérience en droit de la construction, des infrastructures, corporatif ou commercial. Expérience significative en négociation et gestion de contrats complexes. Bonne compréhension des modèles de réalisation de projets (DB, DBF, DBFOM, PPP, coentreprises, consortiums). Excellentes aptitudes en communication, négociation et gestion des relations. Expérience en leadership et développement d'équipe. Bilinguisme (français et anglais) considéré comme un atout. As a Legal Counsel working in the operational support team at Pomerleau Construction, you will play a pivotal role in the future success of the business by providing strategic legal counsel in matters of corporate and commercial law. Supporting large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will have the opportunity to provide strategic legal advisory and support on day-to-day activities and operations of the company (Pomerleau and its subsidiaries). What You Will Do Provid e strategic legal advice to the Companies executive and management teams Providing legal advice to project teams during the course of construction on Projects across Canada and the United States, including management and preparation of claims under project contracts Provid e general legal advice as required by the Companies’ operations in relation to disputes relating to procurement, environmental, employment, labour, real estate, and other areas of law Managing all aspects of active litigation, arbitration, and administrative proceedings on the Companies’ behalf, including drafting pleadings, preparing document disclosure, conducting examinations, and running mediations, motions, trials , and arbitrations Assisting in the preparation and implementation of corporate governance policies Managing, coordinating, and collaborating with external legal counsel This role could be for you if you have Hold a juris doctorate, or bachelor’s degree in law, and be a member of the Law Society of Ontario or an other common law Canadian jurisdiction The successful candidate will be required to obtain federal personal security clearance to the Level of Secret (10 years of continuous Canada residency, clear criminal record) Have 3 to 5 years of experience in private practice, or as in-house counsel, with experience in construction law, commercial litigation and /or contract disputes Possess excellent legal reasoning, judgement, and the ability to apply these skills in a solution-focused problem-solving manner Be open to business travel to various regions of Canada and the United States as may be required Additional Assets Include Fluently bilingual in both official languages Knowledge of the construction industry Why you should apply For the past four years, we've proudly held the distinction of being one of Canada's Top 100 Employers.
