Posting ID: 987 Department: Legislative & Planning Services Division: Legal Services Job Type: Permanent Hours of Work: 35 hours per week Work Location: Halton Regional Centre - 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville (Hybrid) Employee Group: MMSG Posting Date: August 24, 2022 Application Deadline: September 7, 2022 Job Summary Reporting to Senior Legal Counsel, the Assistant Corporate Counsel will primarily focus on Children’s Services initiatives, in particular the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) System. Duties & Responsibilities Provides effective and timely legal advice and representation to the Children’s Services division. This is accomplished through the identification of issues, provision of opinions, drafting and administration of documents, etc. Provides policy support to clients through the review and interpretation of existing policies as well as providing advice and drafting language for new policies Participates in the development and implementation of plans and strategies to preclude or remedy anticipated legal problems arising out of day-to-day operations and projects. Works effectively with the program area law clerk(s) through leadership and collaboration. Responds to Senior Legal Counsel’s and clients’ detailed requirements. Conducts research and applies related information to assigned work duties as required. Maintains a regular awareness of activities within the Legal Services Division's scope of operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Essential Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the practice of law Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills Strong analytical, research, and client service skills Preferred Broad general municipal law experience. Practice of law in Social Services, with working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 A combination of education and experience will be considered.
