We are looking for motivated Legal Assistants to provide legal support to the lawyers on a variety of our legal teams including:

  • The Labour and Employement Legal Team – Permanent position
  • The Family and Surrogate Law Team – Position expires in August 2022
  • The Litigation Team – Position expires in September 2022


The Legal Assistants within our division play and integral part in all of our teams. In all of our challenging legal assistant roles you will assist the legal team by:

  • Preparing and processing a variety of documents from lawyer’s dictation, written instructions or verbal instructions
  • Preparing letters, memos, reports and outside counsel retainers
  • Uploading legal documents into the ARTS system
  • Preparing pleadings and other court documents such as briefs, orders, books of authorities, factums, affidavits, responses to undertakings and trial binders
  • Preparing briefing notes
  • Maintaining and organizing electronic and paper filing system, calendars and diary system
  • Arranging appointments, scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements
  • Utilize research tools such as e-Carswell, CanLii, Westlaw to pull and cite various cases and statutes
  • Effectively manage and organize legal files and documents in preparation for court proceedings
  • Other duties as required


To succeed in this role you will need to pay attention to detail and demonstrate an ability to encourage others and work as part of a team. You must also be able to work independently and handle a high volume workload for multiple lawyers while meeting necessary deadlines and ensuring high quality standards are met. You will also need a strong knowledge of court procedure and relevant legislation and a firm foundation in general litigation.

Qualifications

A Legal Assistant diploma supplemented with at least 1 year of related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.



Experience in litigation, family law, solicitor work, adobe programs, legal research, and experience working in a legal government setting will be considered as assets

Salary

$2,017.62 - $2,480.72 bi-weekly or $52,659 - $64,746/year

Notes

Hours of work are 36.25 per week.
