Reporting to the Legal Supervisor, Municipal Services & Enforcement Group, Solicitors’ Section here’s how you’ll make a difference to the City of Edmonton as a Solicitor with primary duties involving enforcement advice, general legal advice, and legal drafting: 

  • Appear before City Council and/or Council Committees 
  • Provide sound legal advice and recommendations regarding various issues including enforcement and contract law 
  • Research and apply the law in divergent factual situations 
  • Gather facts through discussions with clients and documents 
  • Draft legal agreements, documents, and opinions 
  • Take a proactive role in providing recommendations to avoid risk/liability Additional related duties as required

Qualifications :

  • Membership with the Law Society of Alberta or the ability to attain immediate membership with the Law Society of Alberta upon appointment 
  • Experience in municipal, enforcement, or animal protection law are assets Demonstrated ability to work independently with confidence under time constraints Good verbal, negotiating, and written communication skills 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Strong legal research skills and computer literacy
