Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., which employs 3,600 people and operates three tire manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia, is seeking a Corporate Counsel / Strategic Business Advisor to join its team in our head office in Granton, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the President of Michelin North America (Canada), the role is comprised of three main areas of responsibility: to provide legal counsel, mainly in the area of employment and labour law; to act as the primary point of contact for government and external affairs; and to coordinate the advancement of business results within the Nova Scotian operations. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Work with the President to establish short and long-term goals, plans, and strategies for the Nova Scotia operations, and facilitate and oversee the deployment and results. Provide legal counsel and support to the Canadian operations in areas of labour and employment law, contract law, and pension law, and interface with external legal support for specialized legal matters. Work in conjunction with the North American Government Affairs and Tax/Incentives practice, serve as the liaison with the Nova Scotian government on investment, employment, legislative, tax, and incentive issues that impact and benefit the operations in Nova Scotia. Work with external stakeholders and agencies to improve the cost optimization and value creation opportunities inside of the Nova Scotian operations. Assist with the coordination and alignment of the Nova Scotia functional support staff specifically for purchasing, logistic, health and safety, and engineering, to ensure the optimal effectiveness and cost efficiency of the services provided. Requirements for this position: Practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. 5+ years proven legal experience. A solid background in business administration. An MBA would be an asset. Experience with or exposure to governmental affairs would be an asset. Competencies: Strong knowledge of labour and employment law. Strong business acumen. Strong networking capability and a track record of working in a broad-based network. Strong verbal and written communication skills across multiple hierarchical levels. Well-organized and able to manage autonomously. Ability to set and achieve goals and work collaboratively with a diverse team. Demonstrated solid teamwork, interpersonal, leadership and planning skills. Strong critical thinking skills.
