Senior Legal Counsel reports to the Vice President and Associate General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel provides expert and high-quality legal advice (in English, French and/or Spanish is an asset) and counsel on all employment matters to the Bank with respect to business, activities and transactions, to ensure business results are met in accordance with legislative guidelines and Scotiabank's overall corporate governance. Reporting to the Vice President Legal, the Senior Legal Counsel, Employment and Labour Law will be responsible for HR legal issues supporting the governance of the employer-employee relationships within the organization.
This role is accountable for upholding and protecting the obligations of the organization under appropriate legislation, rules, and regulations along with ensuring the organization is complying with the laws related to the formation, full lifecycle, and cessation of employment relationships.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice to Trans Mountain Leadership on employment and labour law matters including, discipline and termination of employment, constructive and wrongful dismissal, as well as conflict-related to harassment, bullying, violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination
Advise in formulating, drafting, editing, and implementing labour & employment-related company strategies, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk to Trans Mountain
Draft and/or manage preparation for external resources for claims, contracts, or other legal documents to support Trans Mountains' legal proceedings as well as employment and labour-related legal briefs and legal opinions
Conduct legal research to develop an understanding of precedents and how past outcomes can be leveraged to support Trans Mountain
Interpret, advise and proactively communicate/update Trans Mountain on employment and labour-related laws, rulings, regulations & general compliance, outlining the implications to Trans Mountain
Qualifications and Professional Experience:

Membership in the Canadian Bar Association.
