Salary Range: $46,18250 to $52,157.99 annually

Temporary appointment up to 18 months. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary opportunity. An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and / or temporary vacancies.

The position is located in Richmond and the successful candidate is expected to work in the office full-time during the probationary period. Upon training completion and satisfactory performance, WCAT’s work at home agreement allows for working from home up to a maximum of two days per week.

WCAT is an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal that operates under Part 7 of the Workers Compensation Act. It provides a final decision on applications and appeals from parties who are not satisfied with a decision they received from WorkSafeBC. Topics include, compensation claims, employer assessments, occupational safety and health, prohibited action claims, applications by employers for relief of costs, and certifications to court. These decisions impact thousands of workers and employers in B.C. every year.

Job Summary

WCAT is seeking a legal administrative assistant to provide legal secretarial and administrative support services to the vice chair, tribunal counsel, vice chair quality assurance and legal counsels for:

  • all legal matters in the tribunal counsel office at all levels of court (BC Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada);
  • post-decisional matters such as reconsiderations, corrections and clarifications, and complaints;
  • freedom of information requests and privacy breaches; and
  • legal advice to the WCAT chair and vice chairs.

Job Requirements:
To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below and in the attached job profile:

  • Grade 12 graduation plus completion of a Legal Office Administrative Assistant program from a recognized institution, or equivalent knowledge and one year experience in a legal environment.
  • Experience delivering customer service and working with angry and/or upset customers/clients.
  • Experience/training in keyboarding, word processing, database software and other standard computer applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience drafting, formatting and preparing legal documents and correspondence
