Job description:
Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire Law Clerk – Suit Referral & Billing who will be responsible for opening, referring and tracking all ongoing claims litigation and managing referrals to in house or external firms, and reviewing bills from external law firms. Individuals in this position will be responsible for performing data processing and entry to open new lawsuits and other matters in support of the Legal and Claims departments.

Accountabilities:
Perform data processing and entry of new lawsuits and other matters via electronic queues for lawyers in the in-house counsel offices and external law firms
Assign litigation files to lawyers in-house counsel and external law firms
Make decisions within established procedures and with general supervision based upon the scope of their assigned responsibilities
Record and track data regarding quantity of notice, number of law suits, external firm billing etc
Review and scrutinize statements of account from external lawyers and maintain strong working relationships with external firms, monitor and apply Guidelines and Best Pracitices
Work with senior in-house counsel when required to assist with file delegation or assignment
Provide support to in-house counsel office for administrative duties when workloads permit

Qualifications:
Previous experience as a paralegal, law clerk or senior claims analyst required
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience working in insurance defence litigation or claims management
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
Ability to review, assess and refer claims litigation matters to the appropriate counsel for management, with the assistance of senior lawyers as necessary
Ability to rapidly process and enter significant amounts of data accurately, track metrics and run reports
Knowledge of immediate work group functions and processes;

Bonus qualifications:
Possesses intermediate level computer skills, including a working knowledge of Outlook
Word, Excel, PDF, Power Point software and web-based applications
