Do you want to broaden your expertise as a law clerk in an innovative retail space? You will provide confidential legal and administrative support to our in-house Labour and Employment Legal Counsel team.  You will support lawyers who provide legal advice on a wide range of complex labour, employment, and human rights matters.

About the Role

  • Draft and file legal documents and submissions associated with arbitration, human rights, wrongful dismissal, and other legal proceedings.
  • Set up, organize, and maintain legal files and document precedents.
  • Compose correspondence, ensuring adherence to legal style, format, and terminology.
  • Respond to enquiries regarding legal files and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide general administrative support to legal counsel.


About You

  • Associate Member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or a law clerk certificate/diploma (or equivalent) by an Ontario educational institution approved by ILCO or equivalent progressively responsible legal/clerical experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a legal department or law firm, preferably in the area of labour and employment law.
  • Deep knowledge of legal office methods including an understanding of legal terminology, documents, formats, system terminology and phraseology, and processes associated with labour, employment, and human rights proceedings.
  • Excellent technical proficiency in Adobe and MS Office suite, including SharePoint and, OneNote.     
  • Effective written communication skills including strong proofreading skills.
  • Previous experience working in a team environment where flexibility, keeping others informed, and anticipating needs is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage, coordinate, organize, and maintain control of a large volume of complex legal documentation.
  • Superb customer service skills and the ability to ensure discretion in dealing with confidential and highly sensitive matters.
  • Expertise in producing accurate, dependable results in a deadline-oriented, multitasking environment.
  • Ability to work independently using sound judgment in a professional legal environment.
