This position is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on labour, employment and human rights matters to the Calgary Police Service with a view of ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and risk management. Specific duties include:
Provide legal advice on a broad range of human resources related matters including labour, employment, human rights, recruitment, grievance/arbitration, pension.
Advise management on negotiations and other matters involving collective agreements.
Develop proactive strategies to minimize legal risks, liaise with external partners, provide labour and employment law training and supervise the legal assistant.
Prepare legal documents including contracts, grievance and settlement agreements.
Provide strategic legal advice to ensure compliance with relevant law, to minimize risk of litigation, arbitration and liability.
Must possess a Law degree and be eligible for membership with the Law Society of Alberta.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in labour, employment and human rights law is required.
Legal experience in a law enforcement environment is desirable.
Be results focused, with relationship building skills that help to coach and develop. Be a good communicator who is effective and thorough. Work effectively in a changing environment and be able to demonstrate analytical thinking.
An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
