The Opportunity
Our Litigation team in Canada is looking to add a junior lawyer to the team. Reporting to the Director, Litigation & Employment Law, this professional will support the team in both conducting and managing litigation and arbitration matters involving TC Energy and its subsidiaries. We are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel who has knowledge and experience in commercial litigation and arbitration matters. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity to support the litigation and arbitration process, identify legal risks and provide strategic legal advice tailored to the needs of the business unit.
What you’ll do
This Legal Counsel will support the full cycle of the litigation or arbitration process, starting with initial file assessment and fact gathering, through the pleadings, discovery, trial and/or settlement phases. Specific tasks include:
Conducting initial file assessment and review, including interviewing witnesses and fact- gathering
Conducting legal research and preparing research memorandums
Assisting with document identification, collection, review and production
Drafting legal memorandums, pleadings, applications and briefs
Assisting with or conducting questioning
Assisting with trials or hearings; and,
Drafting settlement agreements and releases.
Minimum Qualifications
2-4 years’ experience in litigation
LL.B, J.D. or equivalent from a recognized University
Active member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta

Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Experience with complex commercial, construction, and employment disputes, and bankruptcy and insolvency matters
Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities within tight timeframes
Flexible, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, constantly changing environment
Solid judgment and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Experience with LawBase Matter Management, Open Text, Axcelerate Review & Analysis and, Legal Hold Pro, or other similar systems

Have current, valid authorization to work in Canada
Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
Be part of an on-call rotation as Legal representative in Corporate Emergency Operations Centre and provide emergency support as required
