Job Description

Who we are

Founded in 2012, Arbitration Place is a premier Arbitral Centre with world-class facilities in Toronto and Ottawa and cutting-edge technology enabling excellence in virtual case proceedings. With a formidable roster of over 30 Arbitrators including many of Canada’s leading domestic and international lawyers and mediators, including former Chief Justice of Canada and Supreme Court Justices, as well as prominent international attorneys, we are ranked seventh in the world of leading arbitration.

Arbitration Place Virtual (APV), our virtual case management service, is a fully customizable dispute resolution service through a secure eHearing format. We use advanced video-conferencing software and communications hardware to facilitate a stable and seamless connection that authorized participants log into from wherever they are located. APV can be used for any type of real-time dispute resolution proceeding, including arbitrations, mediations, motions and procedural conferences, examinations-for-discovery, settlement conferences, and court litigation.

The Opportunity

As the demand for virtual arbitration has increased, we are hiring contract Virtual Case Managers (lawyers) to oversee these hearings. A practicing lawyer, you are seeking an opportunity to be part of the future of dispute resolution. As our new Virtual Case Manager, you will work with clients and participate in sessions to present the case, evidence or arguments.

What’s in it for you

Growth and innovation. We’re leading the industry in APV and scaling our operations quickly to meet demand. We are growing globally and innovating rapidly.

A positive environment. You will be part of a collaborative client focussed team, with the freedom to work remotely on a diverse range of local, national and international cases.

What you bring to the table:

  • The expertise. You are a registered lawyer with experience in litigation or contract law.  If registered as a lawyer in a country other than Canada, you must also be registered as a business.
  • The technical skills. You can navigate a range of virtual meeting tools and you are comfortable hosting remote meetings, mediations, and legal proceedings.
  • The professional personality. You have outstanding interpersonal, communication, conflict management skills, and you are comfortable presenting to large and small groups in front of a camera.
  • The flexibility. You are accustomed to being proactive and navigating the unknown in a fast-paced environment. You understand the nature of arbitration and mediation hearings; the manner in which they can come up suddenly or be rescheduled; and are willing to adapt your schedule to rapidly respond to change requests.

This is an open-ended contract position paid on an hourly rate.  Hours will depend on your availability and client demand. Many of our Virtual Case Managers work 40+ hours a week. While hours are not guaranteed we will endeavour to accommodate full time work where we can.  We require our Virtual Case Managers to be very flexible to meet the ever changing needs of our client and our contracts reflect the nature of our work.
