The Marco Group is growing and we are looking for a Construction Lawyer to join our team in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Construction Lawyer will report to and advise the Executive Team on commercial construction projects, tenders, contracts, financing, disputes and other legal matters across the organization.

The Construction Lawyer will be responsible for:
Identification, avoidance and management of risks in all aspects of the project – from RFP/tender to completion.
Drafting and negotiating sound legal construction contracts with owners, consultants, sureties, subcontractors and suppliers.
Acting as a legal advisor throughout all aspects of the construction process, including project management, claims avoidance, completion and payment.
Providing assistance with requests for proposals, RFQs, RFPs, bids and tenders.
Preparation of and submission of claims for additional compensation arising from changes in scope and schedule.
Supporting company growth and management by an ongoing review of contracts and managing disputes. When necessary, representing the organization in litigation and arbitration relating to contract termination.
Managing external legal counsel.
Performing various ad hoc legal projects as required by the Executive team.
Ability to travel regionally and nationally.
Qualifications and Skills:
Candidates must have general commercial law experience and familiarity with commercial development.
Bachelor’s degree or JD in Law and licensed to practice in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and/or Nova Scotia (or able to be licensed in either/both).
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in construction law and/or general contract law.
Must continuously practice and display integrity, teamwork, and commitment.
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for success in this position. Written and spoken skills in French would be considered an asset.
