    Job Description:

    The role:

     

    The ideal candidate will be a strong corporate/commercial lawyer with some knowledge of intellectual property rights. There will be no patent prosecution or drafting work so the candidate does not need to be a patent agent.

    The role includes a range of commercial agreement work including nondisclosure, distribution, vendor, service, consulting, licensing, media, marketing, sponsorship, outsourcing and information technology agreements.  The candidate will work largely independently with input from the General Counsel.  The legal department at Spin Master is comprised of the General Counsel; three associate lawyers (one of which this position is temporarily replacing); a trademark agent; a senior director of IP, contracts and licensing; an intellectual property coordinator; a contracts coordinator; and an administrative assistant. 

     

    What can we expect from you:

    • Drafting, reviewing, advising on, and negotiating aforementioned types of agreements (domestic and international)
    • Strong initiative and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders worldwide
    • Working closely with business units to ensure that all commercial activities are conducted in a strategic and compliant manner
    • Proven excellent planning, organizational and time management skills, and business judgment with a strong capacity to give and communicate reasoned, competent advice that demonstrates an understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation
    • Ability to influence and persuade at all levels of Spin Master’s business
    • Experience in intellectual property law, privacy law, preferred, but not required
    • Excellent team player with incredibly strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure

     

     

    You should apply if you have the following:

    • LLB or JD from an accredited law school
    • Qualified to practice law in Ontario
    • 4-6 years post-call experience, in house or at a major law firm strongly preferred as well as experience in commercial/corporate law
