Job Description

As a Legal Assistant (Contract/Secondment to November 30, 2019), you will play an integral role in the Legal department working closely with the Litigation team to provide legal assistance on our defence files. This exciting in-house role is based in our Dartmouth, NS office.

Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Word Processing, electronic filing, binding, scanning, photocopying
  • General office duties
  • Setting up new files
  • Drafting correspondence, court documents, and closing files
  • Scheduling examinations for discovery, and meetings
  • Other duties as required

  Your Skills

You must have:

  • College diploma and/or university degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a legal assistant, preferably within an insurance defence or personal injury law firm
  • Working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Strong document management skills with the ability to learn and utilize Intact’s various software programs, including iManage
  • Excellent attention to detail and sound proofreading skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize
  • Effective customer service skills
  • Excellent communication, listening, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills and an ability to work within a team dynamic
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and take initiative
  • Demonstrate a disciplined approach to work
