Reporting to the Manager, Claims Legal Counsel, you will represent Desjardins General Insurance Inc., its affiliates and its insureds before courts of first instance and courts of appeal. You will be called upon to manage complex strategic and political legal cases.

In addition, you will advise the Claims Division and other organization sectors regarding legal orientations pertaining to claims files. You will participate in various committees and will explain the legal impacts resulting from the decisions under consideration. You will also serve as coach for other Legal Affairs legal advisors with the objective of developing your colleagues’ skills. Finally, you will serve as expert advisor to senior management and decision-making bodies regarding your field of expertise.

The nature of the files and projects entrusted to you will require in-depth expertise in your field of activity.




Additional responsibilities

  • Responsible for complete management of complex litigation files, as either plaintiff or defendant, regarding insurance law and third party liability for both individuals and companies
  • To this end, issue opinions, develop strategies, draft procedures, conduct interviews, negotiate and represent the company and its insured before courts of first instance and courts of appeal
  • Advise the organization’s various units and decision-making bodies in the processing of various claims files
  • Interpret laws and regulations and issue legal opinions
  • Serve as coach, reference and resource person in your field
  • Manage or assist with various claims mandates and special projects.

  • Bachelor of Laws
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in property and casualty insurance

  • Member of the Quebec Bar for at least twelve twelve years
  • For vacant positions available in Quebec, please note that knowledge of French is required 


Specific knowledge

Independent speaker, intermediate knowledge of English (an asset)
