General Accountability

 

Provides direct administrative assistance to appropriate Solicitors. The role performs a variety of legal and administrative functions and carries out general litigation, arbitration, and hearing procedures as directed. The role also monitors and maintains documents, and resources.

 

Key Job Functions

 

  • Review, store, and update files on an ongoing basis as required.
  • Schedule and coordinate various meetings, investigations, searches and other activities related under area of responsibility.
  • Prepare and file motions or other court documents as required.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties on matters related to area of responsibility.
  • Draft and arrange various documents and reports.
  • Perform general office administrative duties and provide additional support as required.

Education and Experience

 

Enrolment in or completion of a post-secondary education in a law clerk and/or legal administrative certificate/diploma program or the equivalent combined with broad work experience in a similar or related legal environment

 

Additional Requirements

 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal/office administration, concepts, practices, methods, procedures and equipment as well as research methods and techniques
  • Must have a minimum of 1 to 5 years’ experience as a legal assistant or law clerk, preferably in the area of insurance defence litigation
  • Must have excellent administrative and typing skills and be proficient in the use of a PC and computer applications related to the work
  • Good knowledge of legal terminology and procedures involved in the progression of civil actions
  • Must be detail oriented and possess sound judgment, well-developed interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent organizational abilities to prioritize several work assignments simultaneously and meet critical time requirements
