Role Overview

Loblaw is currently seeking a lawyer with a strong interest in commercial leasing and real estate transactions to join the legal department. Reporting to the Senior Director, Legal Counsel for Loblaw Real Estate, the successful candidate will provide legal services to our Loblaw Real Estate and Shoppers Drug Mart business groups. The responsibilities of this position will include:
Review, negotiate and draft various lease documentation including leases, lease amending agreements and license agreements
Advise business colleagues and draft correspondence in relation to landlord/tenant disputes
Oversight of disposition activities, including the preparation of agreements of purchase and closing documentation, as well as coordination of closings
Drafting, negotiating and reviewing access agreements, easements and right of way documentation
Involvement in expropriations work
Conducting analysis and preparation of legal opinions regarding the interpretation of various real property related legal documents
Work closely with senior legal counsel and various business groups on key initiatives that involve the Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart real estate portfolios

The position requires the successful candidate to spend time working from both Loblaw’s head office in Brampton, as well as the Shoppers Drug Mart office in Toronto.

What You’ll Need:
Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
Excellent academic credentials
1 year post-call experience in commercial leasing and/or real estate obtained at a major law firm or corporation
