Job Description

Manitoba Hydro is looking for an experienced Lawyer to join our team to provide timely and effective legal advice pertaining to

Indigenous and contract law. This will include the preparation and review of contracts and agreements; advocating Manitoba Hydro's

position in negotiations, before administrative tribunals and the courts; and conducting legal research and preparing opinions. In

addition, the Lawyer will monitor evolving case law, regulatory and legislative developments and provide advice regarding how same

impacts corporate policy and other activities.


  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba, with five or more years at the Bar.
  • Experience in Indigenous and contract law. Knowledge of environmental and administrative law would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated legal research and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Experience with engaging directly with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Ability to recognize communication needs and adjust own language and behaviours accordingly.
  • Willingness to challenge traditional approaches and apply creative thinking techniques.
  • Ability to implement innovative means to accomplish goals and solve problems.
  • Advocacy experience including independently conducting negotiations and appearing before administrative tribunals and

regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Project management experience including ability to adjust priorities with changing demands, and allocate work and resources
