We are currently recruiting for a contract (18 months) junior Intellectual Property Assistant — Patents & Trademarks. In this role you will work within a team environment, providing administrative support to the patent and trademarks lawyers and agents.


  • Reviewing, checking and entering official correspondence from CIPO, Foreign Patent Offices and Foreign Associates into the Intellectual Property in-house database.
  • Preparing and forwarding correspondence to CIPO and/or clients using the Intellectual Property in-house database templates.
  • Processing and entering updates into the Intellectual Property in-house database i.e. file opening forms, client contacts, removing and entering deadlines.
  • Completing Canadian Trademark registration fee payments, renewal payments and requests for extension of time using CIPO’s on-line portal.
  • Coordinating the submission of documents to CIPO by the daily deadline.
  • Resolving work-related matters in a professional and timely manner.


  • 1-3 years’ experience working as a Trademark and/or Patent Assistant
  • Canadian and Foreign Trademark and/or Patent experience.
  • Produce a high quality and quantity of work product, occasionally under tight timeline.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with strong keyboard and dicta-typing skills.
