Legal Counsel, Information Technology /Procurement
Corporate Services – Legal Services
Contract Duration: Approximately thirteen (13) months
(With Possibility of Extension or Regular Full Time)

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel of Business Law, The Regional Municipality of Peel is seeking a lawyer to join its Business Law practice group.

The Role:
Advising on commercial information technology transactions and procurement processes involving information technology and other matters
Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of information technology agreements and procurement documents
Providing high quality and effective legal advice on information technology, intellectual property, and general procurement matters
Providing opinions and strategic direction to Regional staff
Performing other related duties as assigned

LL.B. or equivalent and be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
Minimum of three years of relevant experience as a practicing lawyer in information technology
Ability to provide timely and effective legal advice on information technology matters
Knowledge and experience drafting, negotiating, structuring and advising on various types of commercial contracts and transactions relating to all aspects information technology and public procurement
Ability to provide advice and opinions on intellectual property, trademark and copyright matters
Knowledge of municipal law and privacy legislation would be viewed as assets
Must possess excellent communication, drafting, analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrate tact, patience and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a collegial team environment
Ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities and manage and develop relationships with members of the public, other legal counsel and senior management
Must have sound judgment in providing practical legal advice in support of the Region’s business needs and negotiating complex agreements, often under tight deadlines
Strong organizational skills are also required

Hours of work: 8:30am-4:30pm;
