This opportunity is based out of our new state-of-the-art headquarters in Brampton located at the corner of Steeles Avenue and Mississauga Road on the Mississauga/Brampton border.

In this role, you will be assisting senior lawyers in advising on legal rights and obligations of the company on a wide range of legal issues as well as advising management in all areas of the company on routine and less complex legal issues.

Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

  • Review, prepare, and negotiate contracts and other commercial and transactional documents. This includes dealer and customer contracts; supplier contracts; procurement, advertising, marketing, and product liability; technology licensing; litigation; commercial leasing; and corporate law and governance
  • Provide general day-to-day legal advice to business units
  • Respond to routine inquiries with respect to interpretation of legislation and regulations affecting the company
  • Provide litigation support, including gathering evidence, investigating facts and legal issues, and preparing and responding to discovery requests
  • Participate in legal compliance programs and assist with internal administrative procedures
  • Prepare legal opinions and reports
  • Conduct research on various legal matters
  • Assist more senior lawyers as needed
  • Participate in cross-functional corporate functions as required

Qualifications To Succeed, You Will Have:

  • Law degree and admission to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related work experience in a corporation is required
  • Knowledge of the following areas of law would be a definite asset: competition, insolvency, and intellectual property
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple files in an extremely fast paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all business divisions within the company
  • Basic computer/technical skills are required to conduct research, use Microsoft Word, enter information into Excel, and build presentations in PowerPoint
  • Refined analytical skills to review and analyze contracts, apply legal principles, and assess risks to Canon’s business
  • Fluency in French an asset
