Position Title Senior Legal Counsel, Western Canada

Job Summary

 

Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Counsel, Canada, the Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with AECOM’s operations personnel in a general legal advisory capacity, as well as with his/her colleagues within the legal and other support services departments.

 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below

 

    • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of professional services (engineering, architecture, environmental, and other technical services) and other industry related agreements
    • Investigating and managing first and third party claims
    • Retaining, managing and supervising outside counsel
    • Preparing reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary
    • Working collaboratively with a diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists and contracts staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors, risk managers, project managers, procurement and contracts staff, and others
    • Providing support to multiple offices
    • Using online databases to document work and maintain updates

 

Minimum Requirements

 

    • Possess a law degree and be a member of the Law Society of any of the following Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan or Manitoba
    • 8+ years of relevant experience
    • Experience in the field of engineering, architecture and/or construction law
    • Experience in complex contract review and negotiation, including contracts for construction, engineering and other professional services, as well as government contracts at the federal, provincial and municipal levels
    • Experience managing litigation files in the fields of professional E & O, general liability and other matters
    • Experience with supervision of outside counsel, as well as with risk management and compliance with internal and government rules
    • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
    • Ability to consider legal questions from a business perspective
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines and strong matter management skills
    • Occasional travel is required

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

    • Working language is English, with French language skills being an asset
    • Additional Provincial Bar Certifications are an asset
