Job Description

Legal Counsel, Land Use Planning and Development Corporate Services, Legal Services Do you have a passion for providing creative, innovative and forward thinking legal solutions ? The position will emphasize municipal and land-use planning and development advice and representation along with some transactional work primarily in the context of securing municipal requirements relating to infrastructure projects, securing municipal financial and property requirements.

      • General municipal law issues will be an emphasis
      • The position will require representation before the Ontario Municipal Board and other tribunals or courts along with significant legal drafting and document review
      • Familiarity with and experience related to the Planning Act ,Housing Services Act , the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Provincial Offences Act prosecutions will be considered advantageous

      Success requires:
      • Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent
      • Be a member of good standing of the LSUC
      • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a practicing lawyer or equivalent
      • Must possess excellent communication, drafting, analytical and problem solving skills
      • Demonstrate sound judgment, tact, patience and the ability to work collaboratively
      • Maintain composure under pressure
      • Experience in the field of municipal and/or land use planning and development law, and in the management of or contribution to small service providing teams and in serving client groups are considered advantageous
      • Experience representing clients before the Ontario Municipal Board and other tribunals or courts
      • Will provide advice on land and housing development and servicing
      • Ability to liaise with Senior Management
      • Proven track record to foster sustainable relationships
      • Strategic development of contracts related to development projects
      • Ability to manage and develop relationships with other legal counsel
      • Maintain and develop collaborative partnerships with municipal, provincial and federal bodies
      Location: 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton

      Hours of work: 8:30am - 4:30pm; Monday to Friday
