Loblaws' Western Canada Legal Group provides legal services and support to a large number of Loblaws' business units in the following practice areas: commercial real estate, leasing, franchising, regulatory, and general commercial law. We currently have an opportunity for an intermediate or senior legal assistant/paralegal or law clerk to join our legal team working for two lawyers in our Legal Group and working closely with the Real Estate Group of our Calgary office. What You'll Do


  • Prepare, draft and revise various documents relating to real estate and commercial transactions with limited or no instruction, including leases, land purchases, easements, restrictive covenants, franchise agreements, franchise disclosure documents, liquor license acquisitions and various other documents and agreements);
  • Research, review and analyze complicated lease agreements, easements, restrictive covenants, etc.
  • Conduct and report on due diligence searches associated with a variety of commercial transactions;
  • Prepare and register instruments at the land titles office;
  • Correspond with landlords, law firms, government departments and municipal bodies;
  • Maintain files and manage incoming and outgoing correspondence for the Legal Group;
  • Provide administrative support for the Legal Group;
  • Work with in-house legal counsel on various complex transactions and contract drafting


What You'll Need


  • Possess a post-secondary diploma or certificate in an accredited legal assistance or paralegal program;
  • Legal experience of a minimum of five (5) years as a commercial real estate legal assistant or paralegal with strong letters of reference;
  • In depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles;
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and organizational skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in generating documents;
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently;
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment;
  • Strong computer skills including an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Outlook, Word, Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • The successful candidate will be the central person of the Legal Group dealing with various issues raised by a number of business units and requires excellent problem solving skills and inter-personal skills; and
  • Self-motivated person with a proven ability to manage a large number of files simultaneously
