Unit Summary The General Counsel portfolio is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the organization, and provides support and advice on a variety of legal issues including privacy, regulatory compliance and effective governance of the organization. As well, the office of the General Counsel proactively identifies, manages and mitigates against organizational risk.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel, the Legal Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer assumes responsibility to provide legal support and advice on a variety of legal matters including litigation oversight and advice on clinical matters. The role will lead processes to ensure HHS adheres to legislative requirements under the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Responsibility will also include following best practice Enterprise Risk Management.
Schedule Work Hours Monday to Friday; days
Qualifications
1. Law Degree (LLB) from a recognized law school
2. Call to the Ontario Bar (Lawyer Licensed to Practice in Ontario)
3. Minimum 3 years of Privacy & Freedom of Information experience
4. Knowledge of PHIPA and other privacy related federal and provincial privacy related legislation
5. Experience in the health care sector and or provincial ministries an asset
6. Knowledge of Health Law and privacy
7. Project Management skills preferred
8. Experience with litigation process, administrative law processes and dispute resolution
9. Experience with implementing/overseeing Enterprise Risk Management an asset
10. Demonstrated initiative, independent thinking, conflict resolution and creative problem solving skills
11. Effective collaboration and team work
12. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
13. Strong communication skills – written, verbal
14. High level of integrity and trust
