New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission Administrative Assistant, Criminal Law Services

12 month contract, Fredericton, NB

The New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission (NBLASC) is seeking an individual to join the Criminal Law Services as an Administrative Assistant working in the Fredericton regional office. Criminal Law Services provides legal assistance to low income individuals, who are eligible under the Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substance Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and other Federal statutes within the scope of services provided by NBLASC.

In the Role, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Administrative support to the Director of Criminal Law Services and the Regional Manager;
  • Court scheduling (Criminal and Domestic) for staff and private bar lawyers;
  • Data entry into the Case Management system and other applications;
  • Ensuring that a high standard of administrative support is available to a team of staff lawyers such as: transcripts, layout of motions, affidavits, etc. ;
  • Scheduling appointments, managing client case files, schedules, and bring forward system;
  • Liaising with clients, private bar, other members of the justice system;
  • Maintaining file management system and archiving;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • One year post-secondary diploma in an office administration, legal assistant, or related program;
  • Written and spoken competence in English & French (please state language capability).

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience drafting legal documents;
  • High proficiency in office technology and MS Suite;
  • Knowledge of law office practices and procedures;
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience;

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with skill level and experience : $1,584 - $1,923 bi-weekly (NBLASC Administrative Series II).
