Job Overview


Reporting to the director, legal you will provide legal and commercial input and support to all aspects of our supply and trading and optimization operations.


Key Accountabilities


    • Provide legal advice covering a broad scope of commercial issues with a focus on Canadian and international pipeline and logistics, trading and marketing activities, renewable energy and related regulatory aspects
    • Synthesize a variety of principles, issues, needs and outcomes while balancing legal, commercial and other issues
    • Provide legal and strategic leadership in transactional negotiations
    • Provide commercial input to business processes and commercial transactions
    • Draft contracts, templates, policies, communications, and external disclosure documents
    • Proactively identify and manage areas of legal risk


Required Qualifications


Experience and Education


    • Minimum five years of broad legal experience
    • Experience leading commercial negotiations and large transactions
    • Experience with midstream logistics, pipeline agreements and regulatory is desirable
    • Experience with commodities trading and marketing agreements (crude, financial, products, natural gas and electricity) would be an asset
    • LLB or equivalent and membership in Law Society of Alberta


Skills and Knowledge


    • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is desirable
    • High degree of flexibility and the ability to readily adapt to changes in Suncor's business priorities and plans
    • Innovative and creative problem solver with a demonstrated ability to work towards achieving a desired business outcome within corporate and legal parameters
    • You are a self-starter with solid business judgment
    • You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    • This position will initially be based in Calgary, Alberta at the Suncor Energy Centre
