The New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission is seeking a lawyer for the Campbellton regional office.
The successful candidate will handle primarily criminal defense services in all levels of Court. He/She may also handle services in any other areas of Law within the scope of services of the NBLASC.
Tasks may include preparation of affidavits and briefs, interview witnesses, meet with clients, attend court, research points of law, maintain good working relationships with members of the justice system, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in trial advocacy. The position also involves providing assistance to senior lawyers on complex cases as required.
The successful candidate must possess some knowledge of the Rules of Court of New Brunswick and also of Federal and Provincial legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substance Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Legal Aid Act, Family Services Act , Interjurisdictional Support Orders Act , Public Trustee Act , the Probate Court Act , the Devolution of Estates Act , the Infirm Persons’ Act and other Federal or Provincial statutes within the scope of services provided by NBLASC.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelor of Law Degree;
Membership in good standing or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of NB
Completion of Articling
Written and spoken competence in French and English (Please state your language capability).
Candidates with less than 5.5 years of membership at the bar will typically be considered as Lawyer level I. Candidates with more than 5.5 years, but less than 10 years of membership at the bar will typically be considered as Lawyer level II.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Asset Qualifications : High proficiency in office technology and MS Suite.
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with skill level and experience:
NBLASC Lawyer Series pay plan Level I-II
$1,720 - $3,606 biweekly
