Workday seeks a seasoned legal executive who can manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced and high energy environment.
About The Role
The Associate General Counsel & Legal Director, Canada (based in Toronto) will have a broad range of responsibilities in leading legal support for our rapidly growing business in Canada, with primary responsibilities in providing legal support for our enterprise sales transactions.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional judgment and business acumen and be comfortable, effective and persuasive in dealing with customers, partners, senior management and government officials.
A JD or LLB or equivalent professional degree from a common law jurisdiction. Bar admission or similar professional registration/certification is required
10+ years’ broad based experience with a leading software or technology company
Fluent in English and preferred / desirable if also fluent in French
Proven executive leader as Senior Corporate Counsel, Regional Counsel, or Assistant/Associate General Counsel
Excellent leadership experience in a high growth environment; a track record of driving for results and building high performing teams preferred
Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills, comfortable and adept at teaming with sales leadership in fast paced customer facing transactions
Strong deal-making skills that go beyond negotiating legal terms and resolving legal issues
Superior business judgment and the ability to address complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways
Ability to see around corners to identify opportunities and issues in our software space and participate fully with the business teams charting our future sales directions
Specific experience in a SaaS, cloud computing, enterprise software or social network environment is highly valued
Working knowledge of Canadian information privacy laws, principles and practices at the federal, provincial and territorial levels (e.g., PIPEDA)
Significant experience counseling global organizations on commercial and compliance issues
Detail-orientation and ability to manage multiple transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships with customers and management
Excellent judgment and sense of humor
Ability to deliver in a demanding and entrepreneurial environment in a timely manner
