Working closely with legal professionals and members of administrative staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading legal innovation projects from ideation through implementation. The successful candidate’s main responsibilities will include: Manages full life-cycle of legal innovation projects from proposal to implementation; including evaluation, business requirements, project management, and rollout Investigates viability of proposed projects by working with internal and external subject matter experts and stakeholders to understand the business problem and identify potential technical solutions Stays aware of new technology in the legal industry Creates and transforms business requirements into functional requirements, working across the full spectrum of requirements process, from stakeholder identification to elicitation, analysis, documentation, management and setting measurable goals Presents the business case to the Firm’s Innovation Council and regularly reports to the Council on projects status Develops and executes project plan, identifying and monitoring risks, communicating with stakeholders, managing the team Develops implementation and change management plans for a project rollout Monitors effectiveness of the project through post-project rollout, including qualitative and quantitative measures Position Requirements The successful candidate will have: Five years of experience in the practice of law in commercial context Strong project management skills and an understanding of how to uncover and document business requirements A technical background would be an asset, but otherwise a demonstrated understanding of the various technologies used in and evolving in the practice of law Ability to manage cross-functional teams Strong understanding of software implementation processes, business process improvement techniques and change management concepts Knowledge of budgeting concepts and finance principles Outstanding oral and written communication skills Strong ability to multi-task numerous projects of all different sizes with multiple deadlines MBA is considered an asset Above all, you are a passionate about all things digital, and want to help shape legal innovation. Take your next step and join Osler Works located in our Ottawa office, as a lead in HR Policy review for legislation compliance, with a focus on Ontario and Quebec, drafting agreements, providing transactional support, litigation support, doing research and preparing first drafts of advice to clients, while being dedicated to using cutting edge technology for diligence and streamlined processes to transform the way we deliver legal services. Position Requirements: In this unique non-partnership track role, you will be responsible for providing associate level support in English and, preferably also French, to the lawyers in the national Employment and Labour Department. This would include preparing employment agreements, severance agreements, reviewing transaction documents, conducting diligence, reviewing and revising policies for legislative compliance, researching and summarizing issues of law, drafting client communications and preparing written advocacy documents, including letters to counsel, responses to demands and tribunal and court replies and defences. This position will primarily not be client facing except for selected follow up with clients to obtain documents and facts. There will be ample opportunities to work on client matters in our Emerging and High Growth Companies (EHG) practice area, including on projects for cutting-edge tech start-ups and venture-scalable businesses. There is no business development expectation beyond providing exceptional service to “internal clients”, being other members of the firm.
