We continue to map the way forward.  We currently have an opportunity for a Legal Counsel - Canada located in our Toronto Office.   Performance Objectives • Provide day-to-day Canada-specific legal counsel and advice to business and support service units on a broad array of matters including, but not limited to: confidentiality; non-disclosure; outsourcing, distribution and vendor agreements; marketing materials and presentations; E-commerce and Website content;  interpretation of legislation and regulatory changes; sign off and negotiation of business related contracts and agreements; and active assistance in modification of existing products and the introduction of new insurance products to ensure that they meet Canadian legal and regulatory requirements. • Work closely with General Counsel and Canadian legal team  to address legal, regulatory and compliance issues of all types.  Role will support the Consumer and Commercial Lines. • Be a part of the Consumer and Commercial management team and provide legal insight necessary to solve short-term problems as well as guide forward-looking strategic initiatives. • Establish professional networks and business relationships within the Canada Consumer and Commercial businesses and other areas of AIG. • Follow Canadian legal and regulatory developments; identify business, legal and regulatory trends and issues potentially impacting the industry and the Canada Consumer and Commercial insurance business; ensure that Home Office Consumer and Commercial Legal Departments  are apprised of any relevant Canadian legal or regulatory developments. • Assist with the implementation of AIG policies and guidelines. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.     Position Requirements: Ideal Candidate Will Have or Be: • Qualified lawyer holding LLB/JD degree and member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada • A minimum of 5-7 years of post-call experience • Solid understanding of consumer and commercial Property & Casualty business.  This includes the following commercial products; Casualty, Financial Lines, and Property, as well as Personal Lines, Travel, and Accident & Health products. • Demonstrated ability, in-house or in a law firm, to build and maintain relationships with federal and provincial regulators • Ability to identify issues, gather and organize relevant information, devise solutions and action plans and obtain requisite support from business and legal leaders • Experience in an insurance or financial services environment preferred • Bilingual (French/English) preferred • Marketing experience a plus • Strong research, analytical and drafting skills • Excellent advocacy and verbal and written communication skills • Ability to work collaboratively with peers and internal clients   About Us: American International Group, Inc.
