The Senior Advisor, Legal Counsel is an integral member of the Operations team, advisor to the Executive Management Team and the Board of Directors. He/she will have an opportunity to influence and execute on the team’s goal - to build a thriving organization - as part of our overall organizational strategy: 20 Million Reasons .
Working collaboratively with a team of diverse subject matter experts you will provide legal support in the day to day running of our business as well as identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on proactively mitigating future risk.
We are looking for a candidate that can bring a strategic approach to organizational excellence and effectiveness; someone who is able to drive change through innovation and risk mitigation. Our successful candidate will be experienced in advising on a wide range of legal matters such as corporate law, employment law, contract negotiation, privacy and e-commerce, managing relationships with various stakeholders throughout the organization as well as with external counsel, and be able to influence decision making based on deep subject matter expertise and knowledge of leading best practices.
What does success looks like?
Provide the management team with proactive legal advice specifically pertaining to operating a non-profit organization, within an international federation.
Review and recommend revisions to key corporate policies, including privacy, employment documents, code of conduct, whistleblower policies.
Complete legal document review on contracts, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), third party agreements, employment documents, powers of attorney (POAs) and vendor/supplier/partner relationships.
Determine need, source, facilitate and manage relationship and product quality of outside counsel for specific purposes, issues, matters of law, litigation
Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid similar situations in the future.
As our ideal candidate you will have :
A law degree from an accredited law school; you were called to the bar in a Province in Canada; you remain in good standing to practice law
An aptitude for drafting and solidifying agreements, contracts and other legal documents
A proven track record as an internal consultant, advising organizations on such matters as privacy law, corporate law, employment law, CASL and general contract matters across multiple jurisdictions to assess potential business impact and opportunities
Business acumen and the ability to influence and support others by fostering strong business relationships
A flexible and adaptable work style; open to collaboration with strong personalities and world-leading professionals; you think strategically and thrive in a fast-paced evolving work culture
A passion for mission driven work; your personal values demonstrate your commitment to ethical conduct and holding others accountable to the same; and are aligned with Plan International Canada’s corporate values
