Job description Position Overview Reporting to the Vice President, Project Controls, the Contracts Director is responsible for the management, analysis, and substantiation of various contract claims/disputes across the Infrastructure segment. Position is on a major Design Build Project or within the Corporate head office (with regular travel). Key Responsibilities Manage and lead the analysis, substantiation and submission of various claims/disputes across the infrastructure division, and wider Aecon business as necessary Development and recommendation of claim strategies and resource needs to ensure timely development and maximize potential recoveries Lead, mentor and assist in the development of claims/change management staff Preparation of documentation and papers for dispute procedures Liaise with legal advisors and expert witnesses as necessary to substantiate claims Liaise with finance/commercial teams as necessary to quantify claim damages. Ensure schedule analysis of claims are appropriately carried out and documented Provide commercial and contractual advice to the project teams as needed Assist in the development of commercial processes, systems and training of teams in Commercial best practices, and change management processes Take part in project peer reviews to ensure appropriate controls, processes, and record keeping is in place Assist in start-up of major projects Take part in lessons learned on projects Provide management reports on claims status. Required Knowledge & Skills Currently operating at senior level in a claims consultancy or in a large construction company Significant claims management/dispute resolution experience on major projects of a complex nature in the Transportation and Civil Engineering sector Thorough knowledge of contract language, change management and legal requirements of contracts. Sound understanding of contractual, commercial and financial functions on major projects Able to command the respect of Executives and JV Partners on commercial matters Proven commercial management ability at executive level Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills. Excellent people and leadership skills. Ability to liaise/co-ordinate/manage internal and external legal counsel and experts Experience of working in major Joint Ventures with International partners. Minimum of 20 years commercial management and claims experience on major projects. Proven track record on successfully resolving disputes on major infrastructure schemes Experience in Design Build and P3 projects Experienced in working in Joint Venture’s with international partners Detailed understanding of current best practices in relation to schedule analysis and quantification of losses.
