Duties The Department of Justice, Legal Services Division, is the law firm for the Province of Nova Scotia. Justice lawyers have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of legal issues, providing legal services to the Crown and promoting the fair and lawful administration of public affairs in accordance with the law. The Legal Services Division consists of Solicitor Services, Litigation Services and the Registry of Regulations. We are currently recruiting for a lawyer for the Child Protection Litigation Services Team in Truro. As a member of the litigation team, the lawyer will be responsible for the effective and efficient representation of the Crown in the course of civil proceedings before trial and appeal courts, boards and tribunals. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to offer creative and innovative solutions to complex challenges, as well as the flexibility to adapt and thrive in a continuously changing and demanding environment. He/she will be able to effectively deal with stressful situations and have proven analytical skills; effective interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills; the ability to function with minimal supervision in a team environment and be computer literate. Qualifications The successful candidate must: - Be a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society (or eligible for practicing membership) - Have a minimum of one year practicing experience - Have a working knowledge of computer software programs, Internet and electronic mail Assets: - Experience practicing within government. - Have practice experience in representing a child protection agency. - Have practice experience in family law.
