Principle Duties & Responsibilities: Reporting to the Supervising Traffic Sergeant the casual traffic prosecutor will prepare for and attend court to prosecute summary offence procedure act tickets and bylaw tickets that do not need full legal representation. Duties include but are not limited to: • Reviewing tickets for errors and appropriateness • Ensuring witnesses have been subpoenaed and all documents required are available for court • Prepare a disclosure package for the accused and meet with the accused before trial • Present the prosecution’s case during court proceedings and record dispositions • Work closely with Prince Albert Police Service staff, RCMP, Provincial Court, and Public Prosecutors • Attend court Monday and Tuesday of each week. • Available for preparation and court approximately 20 hours per week (hours will flex based on court proceedings and preparation time). • Represent the Prince Albert Police Service in a professional manner. Required Qualifications: Desired Qualifications Include: • Demonstrated ability to work within deadlines with minimal supervision • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information • Demonstrated ability to work and respond in a fast paced environment • Demonstrated ability to read and research provincial statutes • Demonstrated strong organization skills • Demonstrated strong communication skills • Previous court experience an asset • Knowledge of summary offense procedure acts an asset Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter and detailed resume outlining experience, education, qualifications, and references by February 9, 2021 As part of the hiring process candidates are required to go through a security screening process.
